A field deployable, portable structured light measurement (SLM) apparatus, together with a structured light measurement process to manage part to part variation in production and in the field, to support both rotor airfoil mistuning and rotor airfoil repair limits.

Structured light measuring apparatus and methods

A compliant shim for use between the root of a gas turbine fan blade and a dovetail groove in a gas turbine rotor disk to reduce fretting therebetween. The compliant shim has first and second slots for engaging tabs extending from the fan blade root. The slots and tabs cooperate to hold the shim during engine operation. An oxidation layer covers the compliant shim.

Fan blade compliant shim

A compliant shim for use between the root of a gas turbine fan blade and a dovetail groove in a gas turbine rotor disk to reduce fretting therebetween. The compliant shim has first and second slots for engaging tabs extending from the fan blade root. The slots and tabs cooperate to hold the shim during engine operation. An oxidation layer covers the compliant shim. The shim is augmented with an upstanding wall and a seal element to seal the gap that exists between platform edges of adjacent fan blades. This simple combination solves two complex problems, fatigue of fan assembly parts and loss of operating efficiency caused by fluid flow leakage.

A gas turbine engine cooling airflow pickup and delivery system which radially inwardly traverses the torque transmittal path of the compressor section at a relatively large radius location, then extends substantially farther inwardly to a significantly smaller radius location, all with minimal static pressure loss to the cooling airflow. Pressurized, substantially non-swirling air from the compressor stage is supplied to a collector, and from the collector thru pickup holes arranged at an angle of 45 degrees reversely to the direction of rotation of the shaft. The pressurized air is then lead into a vortex spoiler which has a plurality of blades smoothly curved reversely to the direction of rotation of the shaft, the radially outer end of each blade being inclined in matching relation to the pickup holes.

A unitary composite stator vane for a gas turbine engine comprising an aerodynamically configured airfoil section, a foot extending substantially perpendicularly from one end of the airfoil section, and a smoothly contoured transition section interconnecting the airfoil section with the foot. The stator vane is comprised of a composite material including a plurality of compression molded, heat cured plies. The plies include a plurality of centrally located internal plies of reinforcement material of continuous yarns of para-aramid fibers. On each side of the internal plies are plies of resin impregnated graphite fiber material. The graphite fibers are protected by an external steel wire mesh ply covering the leading edges of the vanes. Substantially all of the internal para-aramid reinforcement fibers are discontinuous proximate the transition section between the airfoil section and foot.

Tear-away composite fan stator vane

A composite stator vane for a gas turbine engine comprising a plurality of compression molded, heat cured plies, the plies including a plurality of centrally located internal plies of reinforcement material of unidirectional yarns of para-aramid fibers, a plurality of plies of resin impregnated graphite fiber material on each side of the centrally located plies of reinforcement material, and an external steel wire mesh ply on the leading edge of the vane.

Insertable stator vane assembly

A turbofan engine fan stator assembly includes stator vanes readily insertable through the outer shroud into the stator assembly hub. Elastomeric grommets seal between the vanes, shroud and hub, and an outer band radially inwardly compresses the assembly. The vanes are radially secured to the hub only through frictional engagement with the hub grommet.
