Processes for using pyrolysis gas as a feedstock or a co-feedstock for making a variety of chemicals, for example, circular ethylene, circular ethylene polymers and copolymers, and other circular products. In these processes, pyrolysis reactor conditions can be selected to increase or optimized the production of pyrolysis gas over pyrolysis oil, and the pyrolysis gas which is usually used as fuel or flared can be fed downstream of the steam cracker furnace for economic use to form circular chemicals. Operating parameters of the pyrolysis unit may be adjusted to increase or decrease the proportion of pyrolysis gas relative to pyrolysis liquid as a function of their relative economic values.

Pyrolysis of plastic waste to produce light gaseous hydrocarbons and integration with an ethylene cracker

A system for processing plastic waste may include a feed line, a feed fractionator, a hydrotreater, a catalytic reforming unit, a heavy oil cracker, and a steam cracker. A pyrolyzed plastics feed is separated into light, medium, and heavy hydrocarbon streams. The hydrotreater removes sulfur, and the catalytic reforming unit produces a circular aromatic-rich stream. The heavy oil cracker generates cracked streams. The steam cracker produces a circular olefin stream from a cracked stream. A system for processing plastic waste may include the feed line, the feed fractionator, the hydrotreater, a medium hydrocarbon fractionator, the catalytic reforming unit, a full-range reforming unit, the heavy oil cracker, and the steam cracker. The medium hydrocarbon fractionator produces two hydrocarbon streams. The full-range naphtha reforming unit produces a second circular aromatic-rich stream.

Systems and processes for processing pyrolysis oil

This disclosure relates to the production of chemicals and plastics using pyrolysis oil from the pyrolysis of plastic waste as a co-feedstock along with a petroleum-based, fossil fuel-based, or bio-based feedstock. In an aspect, the polymers and chemicals produced according to this disclosure can be certified under International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) provisions as circular polymers and chemicals at any point along complex chemical reaction pathways. The use of a mass balance approach which attributes the pounds of pyrolyzed plastic products derived from pyrolysis oil to any output stream of a given unit has been developed, which permits ISCC certification agency approval.

A system of reforming reactors comprises a plurality of reactors coupled by flow lines, a feed header coupled to the plurality of reactors by a plurality of feed lines, an effluent header coupled to the plurality of reactors by a plurality of effluent lines, and a plurality of valves disposed in the flow lines, the feed lines, and the effluent lines. Each reactor comprises a reforming catalyst, and the plurality of valves is configured to dynamically connect the plurality of reactors to create a first serial flow path and reconnect the plurality of reactors to create a second serial flow path through the plurality of reactors. A first reactor of the plurality of reactors is adjacent to a second reactor of the plurality of reactors in the first serial flow path, and the first reactor is not adjacent to the second reactor in the second serial flow path.

System and method for on stream catalyst replacement

A process for operating a reforming reactor system comprising operating a plurality of reactors until at least one reactor is deemed to have an operational issue, wherein each of the plurality of reactors contains a catalyst capable of converting at least a portion of a hydrocarbon stream to aromatic hydrocarbons, isolating the at least one reactor deemed to have the operational issue from a remaining plurality of reactors that continue to operate to convert at least the portion of the hydrocarbon stream to aromatic hydrocarbons while the at least one reactor deemed to have the operational issue is isolated from the plurality of remaining reactors, addressing the operational issues, returning the at least one reactor to the hydrocarbon stream by connecting the reactor to the remaining plurality of reactors, and resuming operations of the reforming reactor system to convert at least the portion of the hydrocarbon stream to aromatic hydrocarbons.

A corrosion inhibited sodium and calcium chloride composition preferably in granular form, which is uniformly coated with a minute to minor quantity of an inhibitor comprising chiefly superphosphate and a minor amount of magnesium oxide. There is also disclosed a method for inhibiting corrosion of sodium and calcium chloride which comprises supplying to the metal surface which is exposed to corrosive attack by sodium and calcium chloride, a minute quantity of an inhibitor comprising chiefly superphosphate and a minor amount of magnesium oxide. The magnesium oxide functions to cement the inhibitor as a tenacious coating on the salt granules, and also to enhance the effectiveness of the phosphate corrosion inhibition.
