Aspects discussed herein relate to remixing devices that can be used to modify a gas mix being inhaled by a user. The device can accurately adjust inspired COand/or Olevels independently to a desired level. Aspects described herein generally improve the quality, efficiency, and speed of devices to provide breathing gas mixes. Medical conditions can be diagnosed and a therapeutically effective gas mix can be provided as treatment for diagnosed medical conditions.

Breathing gas remixer

This document provides methods and materials for modulating afferent nerve signals to treat medical conditions such as CHF, CHF respiration, dyspnea, peripheral vascular disease (e.g., peripheral arterial disease or venous insufficiency), hypertension (e.g., age-associated hypertension, resistant hypertension, or chronic refractory hypertension), COPD, sleep apnea, and chronic forms of lung disease where muscle dysfunction is a part of the disease pathophysiology. For example, methods and materials involved in using electrical and/or chemical techniques to block or reduce afferent nerve signals (e.g., nerve signals of group III and/or IV afferents coming from skeletal muscle and/or the kidneys) are provided.

Modulating afferent signals to treat medical conditions

Non-invasive systems can be used to estimate cardiac output and stroke volume. For example, this document provides cuff occlusion systems and methods for their use so that cardiac output and stroke volume can be estimated in a non-invasive fashion. In some implementations, a patient's brachial artery is occluded by an inflatable cuff device for a period of time. A heart rate and a plurality of blood pressure pulse wave measurement curves can be measured using the cuff device. The data collected can be used to calculate an estimate of the patient's cardiac output and stroke volume.

Non-invasive cardiac output assessment

A personal physical conditioning system, for a single, full-size human subject, has a sealable chamber that is configured to allow entry therein and occupancy thereof by the entirety of the single, full-size human subject and to allow the subject to exercise in a standing position using an item of physical conditioning equipment entirely contained within the sealable chamber. The system also has a ventilation system, including a pump, operable to change air in the sealable chamber and to establish, within the sealable chamber, a desired non-zero air pressure level of less than 1 atmosphere and down to pressure conditions substantially equivalent to an elevation of 25,000 feet above sea level. Related methods are also provided.

Exercise apparatus simulating mild to high altitude environments

A personal exercise apparatus that allows simultaneous simulation of mild to high altitude environments with algorithmically driven environmental stressors that may be pre-programmed or personally developed via physiological feedback during training. Additional stressors include an ability to transiently alter pressure in a chamber of the personal exercise apparatus at variable frequencies and amplitudes with a range of changes with an option of random pressure oscillations designed to personalize training programs. The additional stressors further include small variations in inspired CO2 levels and temperature allowing individuals to simulate breathing and temperature conditions in preparation for desired environmental conditions.

This disclosure describes devices, system, and a method for the prediction and prevention of acute decompensated heart failure or other patient conditions involving fluid accumulation in legs or hands. In one example, a wearable device contains a drift-free leg-size sensor and a tissue-elasticity sensor. Both sensors may be relatively inexpensive and developed using innovative new sensing ideas. Preliminary tests with the sensor prototypes show promising results: the leg-size sensor is capable of measuring 1 mm changes in leg diameter and the tissue-elasticity sensor can detect 0.15 MPa differences in elasticity. In another example, a wearable system includes sensors for measuring a variety of physiological parameters, a processing module, and a communication module. A low-profile instrumented sock, e.g., a wearable device, with multiple sensors can provide an indication of heart failure status for a patient.

A method of pattern recognition for classifying the functional status of patients with chronic disease comprising characterizing the functional status based on a multivariable index (MVI) scoring system wherein the MVI is computed by summing a plurality of individual variable values as individual variable indexes (IVI) and dividing the sum by the number of variables and wherein the plurality of IVI includes rest PetCO, &#x394;PetCO, SaO, QUES, V/VCOslope and Pand wherein each IVI is given an equivalent value of &#x3c;1.00 to &#x3e;=4.00, the number increasing with increasing severity yielding an MVI value ranging from &#x3c;1.00 to &#x3e;=4.00, normal to severe-very severe.

Method for combining individual risk variables derived from cardiopulmonary exercise testing into a single variable

A wheeled, fuel hose lift tool adapted to lift successive sections of a fuel hose to drain residual fuel from the hose as a user moves along the extended direction of the fuel hose. The tool includes a hose support wheel, an elongate, adjustable tube and a handle.

The cable mechanism includes an elongated flexible cable that has one end portion adapted for being attached to a supporting structure, for example, the exterior surface of a building by a cleat or clamp, and an opposite end portion mounted to one end portion of an axially elongated stud. The stud has an axial intermediate threaded portion while the end portion opposite the mounting of the cable is polygonal in transverse cross section. Fasteners such as a nut and washer may be provided on the stud in an axially adjusted position to at least aid in supporting, for example, the lower surface of a bay window in a leveled condition while the cable is attached to a building by a clamp or cleat.

Cable mechanism

The cable bracket mechanism is extendable between a cleat or clamp mounted to a building and a part of a bay or bow window that is remote from the building. The mechanism includes an elongated bracket having a a flange at one end extending about right angles to the main body and a reversely curved hook portion at the other end that is joined to the main body and is extended into a second bracket opening, a cable having one end connected to a building and at its opposite end to a stud extended through an aperture in the flange, the second bracket being mounted to the window, and a fastener threadable on the stud to bear against the flange for adjusting the tension in the cable.

The cable clamp is mountable to a supporting structure and includes a base and a cover mountable to the base. The base is longitudinally elongated and has a channel extending longitudinally therethrough with longitudinally spaced, elongated, somewhat bubble shaped recesses opening upwardly through the channel web. Transversely spaced lands provide the side walls of the channel. The cover is longitudinally elongated and has a top wall with flanges dependingly joined to the perimetric edge of the cover. A longitudinally extending ridge is dependingly joined to the top wall whereby, in conjunction with the flanges, there are provided cavities of a size to have the base lands extended therein. The ridge has spaced protrusions alignable with the base recesses to force the cable thereinto when extended through the channel when the clamp screws are tightened to retain the cover in clamping relationship to the base.

Cable clamp

The cable support apparatus includes a cleat mountable to support structure for having one end of a cable laced thereto and mechanism for supporting a load. The cleat includes a longitudinal elongated base having transversely opening jam lugs, hook lugs with the jam lugs longitudinally intermediate thereof and end lugs joined thereto. The jam lug longitudinally intermediate the longitudinally adjacent jam lugs in combination with the base forms generally V-shaped notches that open outwardly in transversely opposite directions. With the cleat mounted to have the lugs vertically above one another, the top hook lug opens transversely opposite the opening of the adjacent jam lug whereby, with the cable extending diagonally upwardly from the last mentioned jam lug to the hook lug, the cable is then bent to extend through the transverse aperture in the top end lug.

Cable support apparatus

A lift as a personal tool used manually to lift portions of a fuel hose successively, equipped to slide along the fuel hose as a user walks erect as the user moves along the fuel hose progressively causing residual fuel in the fuel hose to drain out the hose distal end, away from the fuel truck. The lift includes a handle adapted for grasping by its user separated from a fuel hose support by a bar depending from the handle forming a C-shape with an open portion opposite the bar and a trough opposite the handle. A roller disposed to roll on the hose support has a radially extending flange on each roller end maintaining the fuel hose central on the roller. In use, the user walks in erect posture from the truck along the fuel hose with the lift hanging from the user's downwardly extending arm. As the hose leads to the ground and before the hose reaches the ground, the hose moves into the lift trough engaging the hose at a hose engagement level several inches above the ground. As the user continues to walk slowly along the hose, the lift lifts the fuel hose in successive portions along the fuel hose progressively urging fuel in the hose to move forward of the lift by gravity while hose portions rearward of the lift, that is, toward the truck, fall to the ground empty of fuel.

Personal fuel hose lift

An electro mechanical steering mechanism used to remotely steer an outboard motor. A battery powered gear head motor drives a gear rack running horizontally through a generally square tube mounted on the inside of a boat transom. Spring connectors attached to opposite ends of the gear rack are connected to the outboard motor whereby when the steering mechanism is activated to laterally move the gear rack causing the spring connectors to move the outboard motor to selected positions thereby controlling the turning of the outboard motor.
