A sensing system is disclosed for detecting a full condition within a waste developer system, the sensing system including: a developer waste bottle for receiving and holding waste developer material including toner and carrier deposited therein from the developer system, the developer waste bottle having a translucent, removable viewing window for optical viewing the level of developer material therein, the viewing window comprises a sensing portion in fluid communication with the developer waste bottle, the sensing portion adapted to have developer material flow therein when the magnetic material in the toner waste bottle reaches the predetermined level. A sensor assembly is mounted exterior to the developer waste bottle and in optical communication with the viewing window, the sensor being responsive to the level magnetic material in the developer waste bottle when the magnetic material in the toner waste bottle reaches the predetermined level The sensing portion defines a cavity therein, the cavity being partly enclosed by a protective baffle for preventing airborne toner from depositing in the cavity. The reusable waste bottle is black in color while the removable window is translucent, permitting the use of an optical sensor for determining when the waste has reached the level of the window. Because the bottle is black, it can be easily refurbished by simply removing the window and either cleaning the window or installing a new one.

A latch for releasably securing a member to a support structure. The latch includes a substantially rigid member mounted pivotably in the member. The rigid member includes a catch disposed at one end thereof and a handle at another end thereof. The rigid member also includes a substantially resilient member coupled to the rigid member for urging the rigid member to pivot to a position in which the catch thereof engages the support structure to secure the member thereto. The handle is adapted to pivot the rigid member to release the catch from engagement with the support structure to release the member.

A bearing for supporting a moving member on a support structure. The bearing includes a substantially U-shaped member having an internal periphery and an external periphery. The bearing also includes a first securer, associated with the internal periphery of the U-shaped member, for securing the moving member to the U-shaped member and a second securer, associated with the external periphery of the U-shaped member, for securing the U-shaped member to the support structure.

A shutter seal assembly for opening and sealing an aperture on a surface including a frame having raised mounting ridges along its periphery on a first side, an aperture through the frame from the first side to a second side for communication with a dispensing device on the second side and a storage chamber on the first side, a pair of mounting pivot pins on the first side. Two integral shutter spring seal members on the first side each including a cover portion at one end to cover at least one half of the aperture and shutter seal arms at the opposite end to support the cover potions; each of the arms being mounted on one of the mounting pivot pins through pivot pin mounting holes at the ends, each of the shutter seal arms having integral compression spring elements compression loaded against the raised ridges to maintain the cover potions in sealing contact over the aperture, the shutter seal arms being in contact adjacent the cover portions and being tapered to form a V-like opening at the end, the raised ridges being discontinuous adjacent the V-like opening to enable the insertion of an aperture opening actuator to force the shutter seal arms apart toward the raised ridges to move the cover portions to the open position away from the aperture.

Shutter seal assembly

A counter assembly which can be used in a toner cartridge has a generally circular rotatable actuator member fixedly mounted on one end of a shaft having a screw thread on its surface, a magnet made of a molded compliant magnetic material mounted on the screw thread surface of the shaft adjacent to the actuator member. The magnet is secured against rotational movement but is permitted longitudinal movement along the screw thread surface of the shaft. The actuator member is rotated in a direction to transport the magnet along the screw thread surface of the shaft away from the actuator.

Simple reliable counter assembly of reduced parts for a toner cartridge

A composite metal article is disclosed comprising at least a first elongated electroformed hollow member and a second electroformed elongated hollow member, each of the hollow members comprising at least a first sleeve and a second sleeve, one sleeve of each of the hollow members having a perimeter larger than the perimeter of the other sleeve of the same member, at least a segment of the outer surface of one sleeve of the second elongated hollow member being adjacent to and substantially surrounded by the inner surface of one sleeve of the first elongated hollow member. This composite hollow member may be formed by electroforming the hollow members on two appropriately shaped mandrels, removing the hollow members from the mandrels, and inserting at least a segment of the hollow member from one mandrel inside at least a segment of the hollow member from the other mandrel whereby the inner surface of at least a segment of the hollow member from one mandrel substantially surrounds at least a segment of the outer surface of the hollow member from the other mandrel.
