Roller covers and methods for manufacturing such roller covers are disclosed. According to one method, a paint carrying medium is secured to a core material to form a composite material having at least one core layer and a paint-carrying layer, wherein the composite material has opposite edges. The opposite edges are positioned adjacent to one another and are secured together. According to an alternative method, a paint-carrying medium having a backing is provided. The backing is treated to an adhering state and is applied to a core while the backing is in the adhering state. According to yet another method, a paint-carrying medium having a backing including opposite edges is provided. The opposite edges are positioned adjacent to one another and are secured to one another. According to an alternative embodiment, a roller cover includes a paint-carrying medium and a core supporting the paint-carrying medium. The core includes a plurality of layers wherein at least two of the plurality of layers have different characteristics.

Method of manufacture of paint application

An apparatus and method for making a paint roller are disclosed. The apparatus includes a mandrel, a first core material strip feeder, a second core material strip feeder, a fabric cover strip feeder, a first heater, a second heater, a first liquid adhesive applicator and a second liquid adhesive applicator. The first core material strip feeder feeds a first strip of core material about the mandrel. The second core material strip feeder feeds a second strip of core material about the mandrel. The fabric cover strip feeder feeds a strip of fabric cover material about the mandrel and about at least one of the first and second strips of core material. The first and second heaters are actuatable between a first active state in which the first and second heaters apply heat to an outer surface of the first and second strips of core material, respectively, and an inactive state. The first and second liquid adhesive applicators are actuatable between a first active state in which liquid adhesive is applied to an outer surface of the first and second strips of core material, respectively, and an inactive state. The apparatus produces paint rollers having varying characteristics by selective actuation of the first and second heaters and the first and second adhesive applicators.

Apparatus and method for making variable paint roller covers

A brush handle is disclosed having a core member which is surrounded by a layer of compressible and resilient gripping material of a non-slip nature, the layer of gripping material closely conforming to the contour of the brush handle and being mechanically interlocked to the handle by at least one projection which is integral with the core member and extend into the layer of gripping material, and also at least partially bonded one to the other by heat and or chemical processes. A brush having the above described handle sealingly secured to a brush head utilizing the layer of gripping material and a method of manufacturing a brush handle are also disclosed.

Paint brush with improved grip construction

A replaceable coating applicating pad having, as the paint applicating medium, a velour fabric with a short nap is disclosed. In one embodiment, the pad includes a winged handle and a conforming pad which is suitable for large surfaces; in a second embodiment the pad is small with sharp corners for work in confined spaces; and in a third embodiment the pad is mounted on a sponge rubber-like handle for use on curved and other non-planar surfaces. A method of coating application is also disclosed.

The invention consists of bonding a strip of pile fabric to a plastic tube which is mounted over a mandrel, by an adhesive substance. The adhesive substance may take many forms, and heat derived from a multitude of heat sources, such as infra red, radio frequency, open flame, quartz, induction, ultrasonic or a plasma jet may be used to ensure a good bond between the plastic tube and the pile fabric.

A cage for a paint roller is composed as a one piece, unitary construction having a plurality of projections. The projections make pressure contact with the inside of the bore in the center of the cover so as to prevent the cover from walking off the cage in use. The projections are formed to adapt to structural irregularities in the cover bore. A cage and cover sub-assembly and a paint roller incorporating the above is disclosed. The cage may have a tubular construction with the projections extending from the exterior of the tube, or the cage may have a beam-like construction along which hubs are spaced with the projections extending from the hubs and/or the beam.

A pole for supporting a tool includes an elongate body extending along an axis. The elongate body defines a plurality of outwardly facing facets about the axis. The elongate body preferably includes a first tube and a second tube telescopically received within the first tube for adjusting a length of the pole. The two tubes are locked relative to one another by a locking mechanism that is fixedly coupled to the first tube with a detent engaging member that extends from the locking mechanism into engagement with a detent defined by the first tube. The locking mechanism preferably comprises a collet which is threadably coupled to a chuck that defines a plurality of outwardly facing facets. Rotation of the chuck causes the chuck to overlap the detent engaging member and to frictionally clamp the collet against the second tube.

A cage for a roller cover includes a plurality of hubs, a longitudinal support member interconnecting a plurality of hubs and a roller cover support surface integrally formed with the hubs and the support member. The roller cover support surface is resiliently biased outwardly beyond at least one of the hubs for resiliently engaging the roller cover.

A cage for a paint roller is composed as a one piece, unitary construction having a plurality of projections carried by a barrel portion of the cage, the projections making pressure contact with the inside of the bore in the center of the cover so as to prevent the cover from walking off the cage in use. The projections are formed to adapt to structural irregularities in the cover bore. A cage and cover sub-assembly and a paint roller incorporating the above is disclosed.

A paint tray assembly consisting of a paint tray and a separate cover which is attached to and removed from the tray by mating peripheral ribs on the underside of the lid and the top edge of the tray, and a paint kit composed of the tray assembly and a paint pad, the lid having a recess for receiving in loose, confining relationship a portion of the paint pad so that the paint kit can be suspended vertically or displayed horizontally with the paint pad always being retained in a relatively fixed relationship with the lid and tray.
