An annular blowout preventer includes an annular body including a central bore extending therethrough, a plurality of electric motors disposed circumferentially around the annular body; a packer assembly disposed within the annular body about the central bore; and a plurality of pusher plates disposed in the annular body; each pusher plate configured to radially engage the packer assembly. The packer assembly includes a packer element and a donut that circumferentially surrounds the packer element. The plurality of pusher plates is correspondingly connected to the plurality of electric motors via a connecting rod.

An electric bonnet includes a housing; a guide piston disposed in the housing; an electric motor having a motor shaft; a rear housing connected to the housing; a gearbox assembly disposed in the rear housing, the gearbox assembly being coupled to the motor shaft of the electric motor; and a roller screw assembly disposed in the rear housing. A first end of the roller screw assembly is connected to the gearbox assembly, and a second end of the roller screw assembly is connected to the guide piston. Rotation of the motor shaft of the electric motor transmits rotary motion to the gearbox assembly, which transforms the rotary motion into linear motion using the roller screw assembly. The linear motion of the roller screw assembly actuates the guide piston.

In some well applications, the technique automatically applies increased force to facilitate shearing of a tubular product in a timely manner. By way of example, the system may be utilized to rapidly advance rams to the point of contact with the tubular product extending through well equipment, e.g. through a blowout preventer (BOP), and then to automatically shift to a slower advance but higher force mode. The higher force mode facilitates shearing of a variety of tubular products in a variety of well applications.

Examples of those components comprise a packer which may be compressed inwardly to seal off flow along the interior passage. A pressure-energized ring joint gasket such as a CX gasket for a clamp or other connector includes a cylindrical inner surface oriented toward adjacent sections of a subsea stack that are to be joined by the connector, wings that taper away from the cylindrical inner surface and end in a rectangular shoulder, wherein a portion of the rectangular shoulder is removed to create a boss, an upper groove, and a lower groove, and D-rings in the upper and lower grooves. The gasket can be used to connect adjacent sections of the stack and to maintain a seal between the sections whether the external sea water pressure is greater or less than the internal well pressure.
