A system for telemetrically monitoring a patient includes a remote monitoring device associated with the patient. A location services system tracks a location of the remote monitoring device. A patient tracking computer calculates a distance and a duration of patient ambulation from the tracked location. A method of monitoring an ambulatory patient monitors the location of a remote monitoring device and derives ambulatory event data from the monitored location.

System and method of using location technology to aid patient recovery

As the acuity level of a patient being monitored on a wireless system changes, the criticality of that patient's data arriving at its intended destination changes. For example, if a patient being monitored for potentially life threatening arrhythmias begins to decline in health while being monitored on a less reliable wireless system, the wireless monitor switches to a more reliable wireless system to ensure delivery of critical patient data. Allowing a patient monitor to switch between wireless infrastructures based on patient acuity limits the number of users operating on the higher cost wireless infrastructure.

A medical device system includes a first patient monitor having a proximity beacon that communicates compatibility information and a medical device associated with the same patient as the first patient monitor. The medical device includes a device proximity detector that detects a proximity beacon when the first patient monitor is within a predetermined proximity range of the medical device, and a device workflow module executable on a processor to receive compatibility information and determine whether the first patient monitor is a compatible device. If so, then a direct communication channel is established with the first patient monitor and a device workflow is identified that corresponds with a monitor workflow executable by the first patient monitor. The medical device then communicates with the first patient monitor via the direct communication channel to execute the identified device workflow until a termination condition is reached.

A patient monitoring system includes a sensing device configured to measure physiological parameter data from a patient, an identification transmitter that transmits an identification signal, wherein the identification signal is associated with the patient, and a location tracking system having a plurality of identification receivers arranged in a care facility that receive the identification signal from the identification transmitter and determine a patient location within the care facility based on a location of receipt of the identification signal. The patient monitoring system further includes a contextual alarming module that receives the patient location and selects at least one location-specific alarm rule based on the patient location in the care facility. A monitoring device operable to provide information on data obtained from sensors operably connected between a patient and the device is provided that includes a central processing unit configured to receive incoming data signals from sensors concerning physiological parameters of the patient to compare the incoming data signals to predetermined alarm limits for the physiological parameters to determine an alarm condition and an analytics engine operably connected to the central processing unit and selectively operable to provide predictions of adverse events using the incoming data signals. The central processing unit is configured to alter the alarm limits for at least one of the physiological parameters in response to the activation of the analytics engine to reduce clinically irrelevant alarms.

Optimization of patient alarm settings for monitoring devices utilizing analytics

Methods and system for network monitoring is provided. The system includes a communication circuit configured to receive network information from one or more components of a medical network for a select time period, and a controller circuit having one or more processors coupled to the communication circuit. The controller circuit is configured to determine a configuration and data usage of the medical network based on the network information at reference points along the time period of interest. The controller circuit is configured to generate a graphical representation of a topology of the medical network on a display based on the configuration of the medical network at one of the reference points. The graphical representation includes a plurality of component markers, representing the one or more components, interconnected with each other, and a visual status indicator for the one or more components based on the data usage.

Methods and systems for network monitoring

In the present invention, a communication network management system and method is provided that includes a central processing unit (CPU) including an individual and device recognition analysis engine located within the system on computer-readable-medium having the analysis instructions stored thereon in a non-transitory manner, a recognition device operably connected to the CPU and analysis engine and a transceiver configured to transmit and receive wireless signals between the CPU and various patient care devices located within a coverage area defined by the transceiver. The analysis engine receives information from the recognition device regarding the occupancy of the coverage area and identifies the individuals and devices occupying the coverage area to determine the adequacy of the network to accommodate the potential usage and interference levels resulting from the coverage area occupancy. The system can then alter the network configuration to provide adequate bandwidth and signal strength for the coverage area, as necessary.

A method of prioritizing arrhythmia alarms based on one patient's perfusion level includes receiving arterial blood pressure, electrocardiogram heart rate, and arterial pulse rate values of the one patient during a same time window. Analyzing the set of blood pressure values to determine if an arrhythmia event is indicated, where if an arrhythmia event is indicated, the method includes calculating a systolic blood pressure (SBP) ratio, comparing the SBP ratio to a first predetermined threshold, and if the SBP ratio is less than or equal to the first predetermined threshold, then activating a non-perfusion alarm. If the SBP ratio is greater than the first predetermined threshold, then calculating a standard deviation of a rate differential between the heart rate and the pulse rate values, and if the standard deviation is greater than a second predetermined threshold, then activating the non-perfusion alarm. The cuff bladder defines a bladder length of 9.2+/&#x2212;2.1 centimeters and a bladder width of 24.6+/&#x2212;4.2 centimeters. A telemetry system is disclosed herein. The telemetry system includes a transmitter/monitor configured to provide tracking data and monitoring data, and a receiver adapted to define a coverage area. The receiver is configured to receive the tracking data and the monitoring data from the transmitter/monitor when the transmitter/monitor is within the coverage area. The telemetry system also includes a processor configured to receive the tracking data and the monitoring data from the receiver, analyze the tracking data and the monitoring data, and identify an alarm condition based on the analysis of the tracking data and the monitoring data.

A telemetry system is disclosed herein. The telemetry system includes a transmitter configured to provide tracking data, and a receiver adapted to define a coverage area. The receiver is configured to receive the tracking data from the transmitter only when the transmitter is within the coverage area. The telemetry system also includes a processor configured to receive the tracking data from the receiver. The processor is configured to estimate the location of the transmitter when the transmitter is outside the coverage area based on the tracking data.
