A system for sharing a human-computer interface between a legacy device and an expansion unit for supplementing operation of the legacy device includes a logic device configured to selectively route input and output signals between the human-computer interface and the legacy device or the expansion unit. The expansion unit monitors input signals from the human-computer interface for control codes designating usage of the human-computer interface by either the expansion unit or the legacy device. The logic device includes a switching device that selectively decouples inputs from the human-computer interface from the legacy device during usage of the interface by the expansion unit to isolate the legacy device from input signals not intended for the legacy device.

An adaptive power management system includes a number of load devices, including a burst load device operable with a time-varying load having a controllable duty cycle. A shared power source supplies power to the load devices. The system adaptively determines a power allocation for the burst load device based on operational requirements of the load devices, and the maximum power supplied to the burst load device is limited to a selected power level based on the determined power allocation. A power storage module stores power supplied by the shared power source and supplies sufficient power to permit the burst load device to operate during burst periods with a peak power that exceeds the average power supplied to the power storage module. The duty cycle of the burst periods of the burst load device is controlled to maintain the power stored by the power storage module above a desired level.

A receiver includes a first oscillator supplying a reference frequency signal; a reference signal generator producing a first frequency conversion signal and a local calibration signal from the reference frequency signal; a first frequency converter responsive to the first frequency conversion signal to down-convert the received signal during normal receive operation and to down-convert the local calibration signal during calibration processing; a second frequency converter responsive to a second frequency conversion signal from a second oscillator to further down-convert the received signal and the local calibration signal; a demodulator that demodulates the received signal at a demodulation frequency; and a frequency error processor that determines a frequency error from the local calibration signal at the demodulation frequency, wherein the reference signal generator adjusts a frequency of the first frequency conversion signal used during normal receive operation in response to the frequency error to compensate for the frequency error.

Methods and apparatus for calibrating oscillators in a receiver

An embedded method for analyzing RF channel communication link parameters can include inserting data having a predetermined pattern to a transmission at a transmitter, processing the data through a waveform processor, transmitting the data across a communications link at traffic rates, receiving the transmitted data at a receiver, and determining a RF channel bit error rate of the transmitted data at the receiver. The transmitted data can include embedded synchronization and operating mode patterns such that the receiver can distinguish the transmitted data from contemporaneous voice or other data transmissions. A method for tracking received bits and counting received errors can include providing received bits to a decryption process, and providing test bits to an error analysis application to determine a total number of received errors.
