A diesel fuel delivery system that maintains optimum fuel delivery to the engine despite the presence of an ice blockage at the fuel strainer. Ice formation in diesel fuel can cause fuel blockage at the fuel strainer and generate high vacuum conditions as the engine tries to draw fuel from the tank. A normally closed bypass valve automatically opens in response to an engine vacuum condition higher than normal engine vacuum levels. Upon the bypass valve opening, fuel is drawn through an auxiliary inlet port and line located above the ice formation in the tank.

A grounded fuel delivery module for a fuel system of a vehicle includes a fuel pump adapted to pump fuel from a fuel tank to an engine of the vehicle. The grounded fuel delivery module also includes a retainer contacting the fuel pump and a cover adapted to cover an opening in the fuel tank. The grounded fuel delivery module further includes at least one guide rod interconnecting the cover and the retainer to complete an electrical circuit used for grounding of components attached to either one of the cover and the retainer.

A fuel pump module assembly for a fuel tank in a vehicle includes a reservoir adapted to be disposed in the fuel tank having a top defining an overflow fuel level of the reservoir. The fuel pump module assembly also includes a conduit conducting return fuel from an engine of the vehicle to the reservoir and a one-piece jet pump disposed in the reservoir and having an inlet operatively connected to the conduit. The jet pump has a nozzle to discharge fuel into the reservoir.

A fuel tank cover assembly for a fuel tank of a vehicle includes a cover adapted to close an opening in the fuel tank having a fuel reservoir disposed therein and an insert disposed within the cover and adapted to decouple inertia of the fuel reservoir from the cover under severe impact conditions.

A floated fuel strainer assembly for a fuel tank in a vehicle includes a strainer adapted to be connected to an inlet of either one of a fuel pump and fuel reservoir disposed in the fuel tank. The floated fuel strainer assembly also includes a float connected to the strainer to elevate the strainer off a bottom of the fuel tank as a fuel level rises in the fuel tank.

A spud assembly for a fuel tank in a vehicle includes a flange tower adapted to be at least partially disposed in a fill spout of a fuel tank. The spud assembly also includes a bead flange extending from the flange tower for engagement with a tank filler neck tube to retain the tank filler neck tube thereto. The spud assembly further includes a check valve disposed within the flange tower to allow fuel to enter the fuel tank from the tank filler neck tube and prevent fuel from exiting the fuel tank to the tank filler neck tube.

A fuel sender including a container in a fuel tank of a motor vehicle and, in the container, a filter, a fuel pump, a jet pump, and a pressure regulator. An upstream side of the filter and the fuel pump are connected through a first passage in a first end wall of the container. A downstream side of the filter is connected to an interior volume of the container through a convoluted second passage on a second end wall of the container. A pressure regulator on the second end wall of the container maintains fuel pressure at a substantially constant magnitude by variably restricting flow through the second passage. A venturi throat in the second passage aspirates fuel from the fuel tank into the container. The efficiency of the jet pump is maximized by minimizing the length of the convoluted second passage. Vibration isolating seals minimize the transfer of vibrations and pressure pulsations to the container. In a preferred embodiment, the filter has electrically conductive elements which are connected to a ground circuit of the motor vehicle for protection against static discharge.
