A computer system detects an object in a field-of-view (FOV) using at least one sensor coupled to the computer system and determines a shape of the object using a processor of the computer system. An overlay element having the shape and a changeable characteristic is created and a value of a parameter is obtained. A representation of the overlay element is rendered with the changeable characteristic set based on a value of the parameter and presented on a display of the computer system to at least partially occlude the object.

Information display by overlay on an object

A computer system enhances guidance information on a display, allowing a user position and orientation in 3D space to be achieved. In some embodiments, the guidance is visual, for example the blurring of display objects not at the desired position. In some embodiments, the guidance is aural, for example placing a sound moving to the desired position. In some embodiments, the guidance is tactile, for example using haptic pads attached to a head-mounted display to push the user in a specified direction. The system may be used to guide the user spatially for the performing of a task, to help the user avoid sensitive components, or to guide the user to position a sensor, such as a camera, in an optimal direction for taking measurements. The system includes head positioning, hand positioning and gaze positioning techniques.

A person who is not using a hybrid reality (HR) system communicates with the HR system without using a network communications link using a body pose. Data is received from a sensor and an individual is detected in the sensor data. A first situation of at least one body part of the individual in 3D space is ascertained at a first time and a body pose is determined based on the first situation of the at least one body part. An action is decided on based on the body pose and the action is performed on an HR system worn by a user.

A method of signaling includes receiving a first type of energy at a beacon device, converting the first type of energy into a second type of energy, and transmitting the second type of energy to indicate a position of the beacon device in a real-world environment to a hybrid reality (HR) system. A beacon device includes a receiver to receive a first type of energy, a conversion apparatus to convert the first type of energy into a second type of energy, and a transmitter to transmit the second type of energy to a hybrid reality (HR) system.

A system includes a head-mounted display (HMD) and one or more beacon devices. A beacon device includes a receiver to receive a first type of energy, a conversion apparatus to convert the first type of energy into a second type of energy, and a transmitter to transmit the second type of energy to the HMD. A method to provide positional information to a user of a hybrid reality (HR) system includes receiving a signal at the HR system from a beacon device located in a real-world environment, determining a position of the beacon device based on the signal, and providing a stimulus to the user on the HR system based on the position of the beacon device. A head-mounted display (HMD) includes a display, a structure, coupled to the display and adapted to position the display in a field-of-view (FOV) of the user, and a processor, coupled to the display, the processor configured to perform the method.

Providing positional information using beacon devices

A computer system presents a virtual object on a display of the computer system which represents an action at a location in space. If a user of the computer system approaches the location, the computer system presents one or more stimuli to encourage movement away from that location. The appearance of the object may vary as the user of the computer system moves. The appearance of the object may include information and may vary with a change of state. Multiple such virtual objects may be used to indicate a path.

Information obscured to a user is provided through a display of a hybrid reality system (DHR). data associated with an occluded object at least partially occluded by a real-world object at a position of the user is received and a display window is created on the DHR. A first magnification factor is obtained and a first image of at least the portion of the occluded object is rendered in the display window at the first magnification factor at a first time. A second magnification factor, different than the first magnification factor, is obtained, and a second image of at least the portion of the occluded object is rendered in the display window at the second magnification factor at a second time after the first time.

A computer system provides directional guidance to a user wearing a head-mounted display (HMD). This is accomplished by obtaining a path through real-world space and presenting multiple virtual path indicators to the user on the head-mounted display. The virtual path indicators are overlaid on a view of a portion of the real-world space and direct the user to follow the path through real-world space.

A computer system detects an object in a field-of-view (FOV) using at least one sensor coupled to the computer system and determines a shape of the object using a processor of the computer system. Multiple representations of the overlay element are rendered with the changeable characteristic changed based on the series of values of the parameter and serially presented on a display of the computer system to at least partially occlude the object.

The present invention utilizes station preset buttons on a radio frequency receiver to allow the user to browse through the various subchannels included in a single station or channel. The preset buttons still have the standard function of having a frequency and subchannel selection parameter associated with the button that can be used to directly select that subchannel. But subsequent presses of the button may change the currently playing program to a different program contained in the same station or channel using a circular queue ordering.

The present invention is directed to a bi-directional optical monitor interconnect. The bi-directional monitor interconnect of the present invention includes an optical conductor with a first and second end. Disposed on the first end of the optical conductor is a first optical communication device and a first optical receiving device. Disposed on the second end of the optical conductor is a second optical communication device and a second optical receiving device. The first and second optical communication devices are capable of transmitting data over an optical connection. The first optical communication device is suitable for communicating via a first wavelength and the second optical communication device is capable of communicating over a second wavelength. The first receiving device is capable converting the second wavelength into electrical signals and the second receiving device is capable of converting the first wavelength into electrical signals.
