Force resolving system and method which are particularly suitable for use in the analysis of handwriting and the verification of signatures. A platen is coupled to a plurality of force transducers in such manner that only forces acting along mutually perpendicular axes are applied to the transducers. In one disclosed embodiment, each of the transducers has a film of piezoelectric material and a pressure plate which bears against the film, and forces are applied to the transducers by balls in rolling engagement with the pressure plates. In another disclosed embodiment, the forces are applied to the transducers by flexure elements connected between the platen and the pressure plates. The balls and flexure elements transfer forces acting in a directions perpendicular to the film and permit relative movement of the platen and the transducers in directions parallel to the film.

Force resolving system and method

Force resolving system and method which are particularly suitable for use in the analysis of handwriting and the verification of signatures. A platen is coupled to a plurality of force transducers in such manner that only forces acting along mutually perpendicular axes are applied to the transducers. In one disclosed embodiment, each of the transducers has a film of piezoelectric material and a pressure plate which bears against the film, and forces are applied to the transducers by balls in rolling engagement with the pressure plates. The balls transfer forces acting in a directions perpendicular to the film and permit relative movement of the platen and the transducers in directions parallel to the film.

A record book provides a notebook wherein at least some of the pages permit affixation of a previously completed document into the book. The document is attached to the record book by a peel-off covered (lined) adhesive strip or other attachment mechanism. The invention also includes an imaging structure for providing a carbon or carbonless copy of the user's endorsement impression on the adhesive page. A valid record would thus show identical endorsement traces on the original affixed document and the adhesive page permanently bound into the record book.

Record book

A linear motor includes a stator and a head. The stator includes laminations disposed axially to provide for magnetizable properties in alternate laminations and non-magnetizable properties in the other laminations. The magnetizable laminations provide for an axial flow of magnetic flux in certain embodiments and for a radial flow of magnetic flux in other embodiments. Magnetizable means are disposed within the laminations to provide for a flow of the magnetic flux.

Linear motor

A control system for controlling the relative movement of a head member over a surface such as a plate member in accordance with digital input information. The head member and the surface form a linear, two-axis synchronous motor and the input signal to the head member is controlled to be a translating field vector to produce movement of the head member relative to the surface. The phase of the translating field vector is controlled to lead or lag the position vector of the surface by an electrical angle which is a direction function of the acceleration or deceleration required. An initial acceleration is used to bring the head member up to the desired terminal speed as quickly as possible and with the head then moved at a constant speed until a point when a signal is applied to produce a deceleration to slow down the head so that the head may be stopped at the position on the surface. Additional acceleration and deceleration vectors are provided to control the movement of the head member. The signal applied to the head member may be an analog signal formed as an integrated value from the digital input information.
