A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for managing metadata in a database management system is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of accepting a command in the database management system that implicates a metadata modification and providing that command to a metadata service, parsing the command to determine if the command requires a metadata modification, accessing a rule set defining rules for modifying the metadata when indicated by the parsed commands, and enforcing the rule defined in the rule set. The article of manufacture comprises a program storage device with a medium tangibly embodying processing instructions for performing the foregoing operations. The apparatus comprises a means for performing the foregoing steps. The article of manufacture comprises a means for performing these steps, including a computer implementing a database management system. The functions herein described can be performed by a special purpose processor, a single multipurpose computer. Alternatively, the operations disclosed herein can be performed among a number of computers communicatively interconnected by a network such as a local area network, wide area network, or the Internet.

Method and apparatus for managing metadata in a database management system

A method of fabricating a spline drive including the steps of providing an elongated rod of indeterminate length having axially extending splines thereon, cutting a cylindrical member of predetermined length from the elongated rod, turning the cylindrical member at its end to provide splines of reduced height and shoulders at the junctions of the reduced splines and the original splines, broaching a washer to provide an internal surface of complementary mating relationship to the turned end of the cylindrical member, mounting the washer on the turned end with the side of the washer abutting the shoulders, laser-welding the washer to the cylindrical member, and brazing a drum to the washer.

Method of fabricating a spline drive

A spinning and twisting ring and holder combination including a spinning and twisting ring having an inner ring surface, an outer ring surface, and a central ring portion therebetween, an annular lubricant conduit in the central ring portion, an annular groove in the outer ring surface, a holder having an inner holder surface and an outer holder surface and a holder block extending outwardly from the outer holder surface, the inner holder surface being mounted in fluid-tight relationship with the outer ring surface to cause the annular groove to be fluid-tight, a plurality of radial bores extending between the annular groove and the inner ring surface and in communication with the annular conduit, a well in the holder block, a first wick extending through conduits in the holder block and the well and having a portion located in the outer ring groove, and second wicks having portions located in engagement with the first wick in the annular groove and having second portions extending through the radial bores and the annular conduit in the spinning and twisting ring.
