Disclosed herein are systems for maintaining protection of electric power delivery systems in the event of a control power failure or other anomaly. A reliable power module conditions electric power from multiple independent sources and provides electrical operational power to electric power delivery system protective loads. The reliable power module includes an energy storage device for providing operational power even upon loss of all control power sources. The energy storage may be sufficient to ride through expected losses such as a time to start up backup generation. The energy storage may be sufficient to power a trip coil. Thus, electric power system protection is maintained even upon loss of control power. A discharge circuit is provided to allow an operator to de-energize an energy storage device.

The present disclosure relates to power converters that convert power in different control modes based on the input voltage. For example, a power converter may include power conversion circuitry that receives electrical energy from an input at an input voltage and provides the electrical energy at an output voltage. The power converter may include control circuitry that receives a signal indicating the input voltage. The control circuitry may select a control mode from a plurality of control modes based at least in part on the input voltage. The control circuitry may control operation of the switch of the power conversion circuitry based at least in part on the control mode selected.

Method to dynamically configure and control a power converter for wide input range operation

A generator winding-to-ground fault detection system is disclosed that includes a signal injection source in electrical communication with a winding of an electric power generator via an injection transformer. The winding may be coupled to ground via a winding-to-ground path and the signal generation source may generate an injection signal capable of being injected to the winding using the injection transformer. The disclosed system may further include a protection module in communication with the signal injection source and the electric power generator configured to receive the injection signal and a signal relating to the current through the winding-to-ground path, and to determine the occurrence of a winding-to-ground fault condition based at least in part on the injection signal and the signal relating to the current through the winding-to-ground path.

Systems and methods for generator ground fault protection

The system includes a unipolar A/D converter, which samples analog signal inputs thereto, the A/D converter being used in a protective relay for electric power systems. The unipolar A/D converter is responsive to input voltage values and current values from the power line to produce corresponding digital signals. The A/D converter has a ground pin voltage reference at least as negative as the most negative point of the input signal to be processed.
