The present invention is a computer implemented system and method for providing event notification between a first application program object and a second application program object where the event is associated with a transition of the second application program object. The invention includes a stateful object ( ) for providing a set of news types ( ) associated with the event and an interest object ( ) for generating a set of interests ( ), each of the interests associating the first application program object with one of the news types. The stateful object ( ) is also for generating, in response to the transition of the second application program object, a news object ( ), the news object describing the event associated with the transition of the second application program object. The system also includes a dispatcher ( ) for dispatching the news object to the first application program object in accordance with the interest of the first application program object in the news type associated with the event described by the news object ( ) thereby providing notification of the event to the first application program object.

Method and system for event notification between software application program objects

A method of providing operating system utilities for use by an applications program for a number of different operating systems. For each utility, a base class is created. The base class is defined in a header file and declares a static member function for creating the utility as an object and also declares virtual member functions for using the utility as an object (FIG. ). The base classes and their static member functions are generic to all operating systems. A programmer includes the header file and invokes the member functions, which are implemented in a library of system-specific derived classes (FIGS. and ).

Systems utility object interface for facilitating software portability

The present invention is a method and system for providing a common communications interface between a plurality of programs through a communications network. The system includes an adapter object (,) responsive to a first one of the plurality of programs for connecting to the communications network; a resource object (,) coupled to the adaptor object (,) and also associated with the first one of the plurality of programs for storing at least one identifier associated with the first one of the plurality of programs in the memory of the computer and responsive to an agent object (,) associated with a second one of the plurality of programs for generating a view object (,) for accepting communications through said communications network; and a data object (,) coupled to the agent object (,) and to the view object (,) for storing the data transmitted between the plurality of programs.

Object oriented method and system for providing a common communications interface between software application programs

The present invention provides for an object-oriented software product interface method which gives a tighter coupling between the software product interface and internals than traditional methods. The product interface scheme includes a Factory Class (44) and an Interface Class (46) which control object life cycles; bend compile-time time and runtime type checking; bind virtual abstract interface classes and hidden internal class hierarchies through multiple inheritance; and provide interface parameter abstraction. The present invention thus provides users of the software product with a stable product interface while preserving the designer's freedom to modify the software product's internal architecture.
