A system and method for performing image scrolling are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system for image scrolling organizes each set of related images as a series object. The system writes selected images from one of the series objects, from the image cache to the frame buffer, for image scrolling on a display. A garbage collection module performs garbage collection in the image cache. The garbage collection module operates on memory space where a series object is released or can be moved, for reclaiming memory. The image scrolling is smoother than if the garbage collection module were to track and operate on each image as an object.

A method and apparatus for configuring and displaying a user interface with healthcare studies. In one embodiment, the method comprises accessing user-specified configuration information for configuring a first user interface of a medical image management system, the first user interface to display a list of healthcare studies including one or more unread healthcare studies; and creating the first user interface with the list of healthcare studies with priority information for the one or more unread healthcare studies, including determining the priority information, according to the user-specified configuration information, for at least one unread healthcare study in the list based on findings that result from performing automated image analysis on one or more of the images in said at least one unread healthcare study.

Configuring and displaying a user interface with healthcare studies

An image viewer and method for using the same in a medical image management system are described. In one embodiment, the system comprises: a network communication interface to receive compressed image pixel data; an image cache memory to cache the compressed DICOM image pixel data and rendered images; one or more processors coupled to the network connection interface and the memory and configured to implement an image rendering pipeline to perform image rendering in response to opening a healthcare study for review, wherein the image rendering includes determining whether compressed image pixel data associated with an image selected for display is in an image cache memory, and if so, then fetching the compressed image pixel data from an image cache, where the image pixel data represents a pre-rendered version of an image from a series in the healthcare study, and rendering a displayable image for display with a viewer on the display, and if not, then downloading from a remote location a version of the displayable image for display with the viewer; and a display coupled to the one or more processors to display the displayable image with a viewer.

A method for transferring and rendering a medical image record, including, receiving, at a workstation of a first user, a subscription to a worklist, the worklist including a Study list having one or more Studies, each Study including at least one Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine ('DICOM') image; pre-rendering and compressing, by one or more computing devices, at least one DICOM image associated with each Study on the Study list; transferring, from the one or more computing devices to the workstation, one or more pre-rendered and compressed DICOM images; receiving, at the workstation, a request to view at least one pre-rendered and compressed DICOM image; decompressing, at the workstation, at least one requested pre-rendered and compressed DICOM image; rendering, at the workstation, at least one decompressed DICOM image; and displaying at least one rendered DICOM image at the workstation.

Systems and methods for workstation rendering medical image records

A system and method for performing image scrolling are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system for image scrolling determines the scroll rate for image scrolling. The scroll rate is based on selection of a scroll rate range, through a user input device, and is further based on movement indicated by the user input device. The system writes a sequence of images from the image cache to the frame buffer for image scrolling on the display at the determined scroll rate.

In one embodiment, the method comprises: monitoring, by a medical image management system, for a first indication of a content change at one or more data sources; determining, in response to the first indication, which of a plurality of image analysis engines is to analyze at least one image of one or more new medical images associated with the content change based on one or both of information accompanying the one or more images or results of applying body part detection on the at least one image; sending a first notification to start image analysis on the at least one image of the one or more medical images, the first notification being sent to each image analysis engine in a set of one or more image analysis engines determined to analyze the at least one image of the one or more new medical images; receiving a second indication that image analysis results are available from the set of one or more image analysis engines; and sending a second notification to subscribers to indicate availability of image analysis results for access and display thereby.
