Methods and systems for receiving purchase transaction data and identifying the purchase transactions that qualify for customer rebates. In an embodiment, a transaction clearing computer of a payment processing network receives the purchase transaction data from a plurality of acquirer financial institutions. A rewards system computer of the payment processing network identifies individual purchase transactions that qualify for customer rebates pursuant to rewards programs and based on the purchase transaction data, and then initiates crediting of rebate amounts from acquirer financial institutions to payment card accounts of cardholders at issuer financial institutions. The rewards system computer also initiates charging of the rebate amounts to merchant accounts of merchants associated with the individual purchase transactions that qualified for customer rebates.

Method and apparatus for reward calculation and disbursement

A managing platform for appending supplemental payment data to a transaction message receives a transaction message representative of a credit card transaction from a merchant or an associated financial institution. The managing platform uses the transaction data contained in the transaction message and other information to determine whether the transaction satisfies one or more payment rules previously established by the cardholder. If the transaction satisfies a payment rule, the managing platform appends supplemental payment data to the transaction message in a format specified by a financial institution associated with the cardholder. The supplemental payment data includes information identifying a secondary payment account associated with the satisfied payment rule. The managing platform subsequently transmits the appended transaction message to the financial institution associated with the cardholder.

A system and method for issuance of a financial network-based payment card (generally known as a 'payment card' or a 'credit card') almost instantaneously after application, wherein an applicant applies for a credit card by entering data into a data entry system using a handheld electronic device, advantageously by filling in a plurality of predefined forms in a computer-based data entry system. The applicant's data is sent via a data network to a central decision center, which approves or disapproves the application. If the application is approved, data is generated, a payment card is activated, and a result of the determination to issue is sent to the handheld electronic device.

If the application is approved, data is generated and delivered to a card production system, which embosses and magnetically encodes a card blank. The card is then delivered to the applicant.
