A multi-tubing pinch valve assembly including a receiving space defined between a pinch protrusion and tubing contact body. The multi-tubing pinch valve assembly is moveable between a retracted state and an extended state. In the extended state, multiple tubes disposed in the receiving space are pinched, restricting flow therethrough. In the retracted state, multiple tubes are capable of being loaded into and/or out of the receiving space.

A frustro-conical chamber for separating particles in a fluidized bed for blood component or cell separation. The chamber is characterized by an injection-directing surface for directing inflowing fluid along a frustro-conical wall of the chamber. A dam adjacent the cell-injection port may be circumferentially disposed within the chamber and may have its maximum height adjacent an injection port, and the height may diminish away from the injection port. The injection directing surface may comprise a shelf extending into the interior of the chamber from the injection port, thereby impeding fluid flow in the direction of an outlet port.

A method for controlling a centrifuge blood component separation system for separating components of a blood product, the separation system comprising a centrifuge and a separation bag and at least one transfer bag. The method comprises selecting a nominal hematocrit value such that an actual hematocrit value is expected to be less than said nominal hematocrit; centrifuging a separation bag containing a volume of composite liquid so as to cause the sedimentation of at least a first component and a second component; transferring some of the first component to a first transfer bag; detecting time of passage of a red blood cell interface at a pre-selected location in the separation bag; and adjusting a predicted processing time based on the time of passage of the red blood cell interface.
