A node includes a deterministic path that conveys packets from input ports to output ports via a deterministic switch. The node also includes a statistical path that conveys packets from the input ports to the output ports via a statistical switch. A deterministic scheduler selectively enables the first path or the second path based on traffic properties that indicate whether the packets are in a stochastic flow or a deterministic flow. In some cases, the deterministic scheduler includes timing circuitry that determines an arrival time of a packet at an input port of a node and enabling circuitry that generates signaling that selectively enables a first path for conveying the packet via a deterministic switch or a second path for conveying the packet via a statistical switch. The selection is based on whether the arrival time indicates that the packet is in a stochastic flow or a deterministic flow.

Electronic packet switching based on traffic properties

A module monitors an arrival time of a frame at a node that selectively transmits frames from different flows in different time windows. The module determines whether the arrival time is within a time window and generates a signal in response to the arrival time being outside of the time window. In some cases, the frame is received at an ingress port of the node and the arrival time of the frame is recorded in an event database in response to receiving the frame at the ingress port. The arrival time of the event is accessed from the event database and this information is used to determine whether the arrival time is within the time window. The time window can be modified in response to the arrival time being outside the time window.

Notification of timing mismatches for queues in time sensitive networking

A node is deployed along a path between a master device and a slave device. In some cases, the path includes additional nodes. The node includes a plurality of queues configured to be associated with a corresponding plurality of flows. A first queue of the plurality of queues is configured to be associated with a first flow that conveys timing messages for synchronizing the master device and the slave device. A scheduler is configured to schedule messages from the first queue during an extended time window that encompasses expected arrival times of a first set of timing messages in the first flow. The node reverts to normal behavior in response to completing processing of the first set of timing messages. During normal operation, the node schedules messages from the first queue during a default time window that is shorter than the extended time window.

Coordinated timing syncronization and time-aware shaping

A node is configured for deployment in an optical network. The node includes an analog switch for routing an optical packet between input ports and output ports. The node also includes digital processing circuitry configured to generate first configuration information based on the optical packet prior to providing the optical packet to the analog switch. The analog switch is configured to route the optical packet between the input ports and the output ports based on the first configuration information in response to the optical packet arriving at the node in a first time interval. The optical packet is not processed by the digital processing circuit or results of processing are not used to configure the analog switch during a second time interval. The analog switch routes the optical packet between the input and output ports based on second configuration information during the second time interval.
