A spacer for parts of a reticle pod includes spacer contacts configured to contact alignment features of a cover and a baseplate of the reticle pod such that the cover and baseplate are separated by a gap. The spacer includes a frame connecting at least two of the spacer contacts. The frame can include a spring arm allowing deformation such that the spacer contacts can be moved relative to one another to facilitate interfacing with the alignment features. The spacer contacts can be configured to surround pins included in the alignment features. The spacer contacts can be configured to be inserted into lead-in portions of channels included in the alignment features.

Reticle containers include a magnetic latch to close the container and clamp the reticle contained within. The magnetic latch includes at least one magnet and another ferromagnetic material, which can be either another magnet or a magnetically attractable material. At least one of the magnets and the other ferromagnetic material can be manipulated to secure or open the container. The manipulation can include at least one of sliding of a housing, rotation of a magnet, or application of an external magnetic field to change the attraction of the magnet and the other ferromagnetic material.

Reticle pods include inner pods where motion limiting features restrict translational motion of the cover and the baseplate relative to one another. The motion limiting features are in addition to gross alignment features included in the inner pod. The motion limiting features resist the translational motion before the gross alignment features would resist the motion. Motion limiting features can include elastic bodies providing friction against contact surfaces, or pins received on elastic contact surfaces or in diaphragms or motion limiting cups.

Reticle containers include a rotating latch including a spring. The spring provides force bringing the segments of the reticle container towards one another such that a reticle in the container is clamped between the container segments. The rotating latch can include a head as part of an assembly on one of a cover or a baseplate of the reticle container, with a slot configured to accommodate the head provided on the other of the cover or baseplate. The head can be disposed at an end of a shaft, with the shaft connected to a base, which is contacted by spring providing force such that the contact of the head with the other of the cover or baseplate provides clamping force to a reticle stored between the cover and baseplate.

A door of a reticle pod includes a window having a lens, sidewall, and a ledge. The window may be positioned or affixed internally in a door between the housing and a cover. A compressive seal may be used in conjunction with the window. The sidewalls, the ledge and the compressive seal work together to enable a compression fit in the door while maintained the desired level of protection from external contaminants.

A container for holding a plurality of substrates includes an enclosure portion defining an interior space. The enclosure has a pluralit of slots for receiving the substrates, and a door () for sealingly closing an open side A cushion () is received on the door.

A plastic insert is configured to provide support of thin wafers in wafer carriers configured to provide peripheral wafer support. The invention includes the insert, the insert in combination with a wafer carrier, and the methods of supporting the thin wafers as provided by the insert and the wafer carrier. The inserts, in preferred embodiments, utilize tabs that fit into the side wall recesses and have an interference fit in said recesses to secure the insert in place. In preferred embodiments the inserts have a top surface with a plurality of ribs positioned inwardly from the wafer periphery for supporting the wafers with minimal contact. In preferred embodiments the insert has a lower surface having strengthening structure providing rigidity to the insert. The top surface ribs may preferably be oriented parallel to the insertion and withdrawal direction of the wafers and extend upwardly to position the supported wafer in the slot immediately above the slot defined by the recesses in which the tabs are positioned. Thus, the inserts may be inserted into alternate slots in the carrier. The insert, in preferred embodiments may have an h-shape offering an optimal combination of support of each wafer and precise positioning of the wafer while minimizing the amount of plastic and correspondingly the weight of the insert.

A container for creating a microenvironment is disclosed. The container includes a shell, a door and a plurality of supports having a unique design which are used to securely retain items, such as silicon wafers, in a spaced apart parallel relationship. The supports are removable. An electrical path is provided to ground the supports. Kinematic coupling structures are also provided for positioning the container on a surface so as to, for example, properly align the door with the port of a wafer processing tool.

The present invention provides a reticle container that is equipped with a secondary container which houses the reticle and is housed in the primary container. The secondary container is held within the primary container with shock and vibration isolation members so that the secondary container has multiple degrees of freedom of motion within the primary container. The reticle is secured inside the secondary container such that shock and vibration transmission from the reticle container to the reticle is substantially attenuated.

The present invention is a pod for containing a particulate sensitive substrate and for providing pressure equalization between the exterior and an interior environment of the pod and for minimizing gaseous fluid flow inside adjacent to the particulate sensitive substrate. The pod comprises a primary pod, a diaphragm positioned in a cover, the diaphragm having a normal undeflected position, the diaphragm deflectable from the normal undeflected position. Preferably, the pod comprises a secondary pod disposed in the primary pod defining a second enclosure for containing the particulate sensitive substrate. The pod may comprise a filter attached to the pod and providing gaseous fluid communication between the exterior of the pod and the interior of the pod. The diaphragm is responsive to rapid pressure changes and the filter is responsive to slower pressure changes and allows the diaphragm to return to its normal undeflected position.

A carrier for a reticle used in photolithographic semiconductor processing, having a base portion and a cover portion. The base portion has a plurality of reticle supports and a plurality of reticle positioning members. The cover portion is adapted to sealingly mate with the base portion, and has an inner surface with a plurality of spaced apart reticle restraints and a pair of reticle positioning tabs projecting inwardly therefrom. Each reticle positioning tab has a diagonal edge portion, and is oriented so that the diagonal edge portion urges a reticle resting on the reticle supports into engagement with the reticle restraints when the cover portion is mated with the base portion.
