The switching system () includes multiple subscriber line ports () for communicating xDSL signals with subscribers, the xDSL signals containing both data signals and POTS voice signals. A logical port () communicates data signals and packetized voice signals from the subscribers with a central office, the switching system () converting between the POTS voice signals of the subscriber lines () and the packetized voice signals of the logical port (). A LAN port () communicates data signals with a server complex () using a LAN () to provide data services to the subscribers. The switching system () may include a switch () that receives voice signals on a first virtual circuit (VC), switches the voice signals out of the switching system () on the first VC, and also communicates received data signals for routing. A router () within the switching system () may receive the data signals from the switch () on a second VC, determine a third VC for the data signals, and route the data signals to the switch () on the third VC for communication out of the switching system () on the third VC.

Switching system and method for communicating information at a customer premises

A system () for communicating information associated with one or more subscribers includes a connecting link (). A first switching system () coupled to the connecting link () communicates remote voice signals () and remote data signals () using the connecting link (). A system for switching and routing data associated with one or more subscribers within a subscriber community includes layer-2 switching functionality and an intermediate device, both within a first network access switch. The intermediate device is operable to receive data units from the layer-2 switching functionality and to selectively store first data units received by the intermediate device after layer-3 routing functionality has begun to process a data block comprising the first data units and before all other data units within the data block ahead of the first data units have been switched for communication and external device of layer 2 switching functionality of another network access switch.

System and method for communicating information using inverse multiplex ATM(IMA) functionality

A communication path selection method for sending messages between a sending communication device and a receiving communication device in a communication network chooses a best communication path for each message based on available message parameters. An index generator computes an index into a path selection table from the message parameters. Each index is assigned an entry which corresponds to one of the available communication paths. An entry generator assigns the best available communication path to each index produced from the message parameters. The method assures that messages belonging to a same conversation are sent by a same communication path to ensure that such messages are received in the proper order, and globally optimizes the distribution of messages among the available communication paths.

Link aggregation path selection method

A communication path selection method for sending a message between a sending communication device and a receiving communication device in a communication network includes a link aggregation group bitmap, identifying all communication paths belonging to a link aggregation group, and a trial destination bitmap, identifying all communication paths identified as trial destination paths by a routing mechanism in the sending communication device. The link aggregation group communication paths are compared to the trial destination communication paths and if at least one path belongs to both groups, a path selection table is enabled to provide a path number identifying the selected communication path by which the message is to be sent.

Low cost link aggregation method and system

A congestion management scheme for managing traffic in a data communication system having a plurality of port blocks at least one of which may be connected to a communication medium, the congestion management scheme including a structure for determining whether a sender is congested, a structure for determining whether a receiver is congested, and a structure for determining whether a RX FIFO is congested and a structure for determining a memory buffer, associated with at least one of the sender and the receiver, is congested. The congestion scheme further includes a structure for handling traffic by taking one of the preferred actions depending upon the congestion indicators.

An apparatus and associated method for facilitating data flow through a multiple port multicast data switch includes receiving a data packet at a first port of the multicast data switch, the data packet formed of sequentially positioned cells of data. Determining if the second port is congested and if congested sending the selected cell to the second port if and when the second port becomes uncongested within a selected period of time. If otherwise uncongested, copying the cell data to the second port.

Multicast data communications switching system and associated method

A telecommunications system 10 is provided which comprises a PBX system 12 coupled to a call processing system 16 through plurality of trunks 14. SMDR data records are received from the PBX system 12 by the call processing system 16 through an SMDR data line 18. The call processing system 16 includes an SMDR translation system which retrieves call records associated with each call placed through the call processing system 16 and matches these call records to SMDR data records received from the PBX system 12. The matched records are used to generate a combined SMDR output record for a particular call which is then output through an output line 30 to a call accounting system 32. In this manner, the call processing system 16 can utilize the information received from the PBX system 12 with the accurate call duration information generated in its own systems to provide for accurate call records associated with each call placed through the call processing system 16.
