Systems and methods for transporting live insects in a secure and environmentally controlled manner. The systems include containers and packaging for transporting the live insects at a controlled temperature and pressure.

Devices, systems, and methods for transporting live insects

An insect container for transportation of live insects including a first and second container portion. The first and second container portions are configured to be coupled together to enclose a volume. Each of the first and second container portions include a backing plate defining a set of vent holes. The backing plate is rotatable when the insect container is in an open configuration. Each of the first and second container portions include a wall defining a container perimeter and including a non-rotating coupling feature, in which the backing plate and the wall together define a cavity. The non-rotating coupling features of the first and second container portions enable the container portions to couple together to fully enclose a volume to prevent relative rotation of the first and second container portions.

An insect storage and release device includes a rigid container used to store and transport insects. The insect storage and release device holds compressed insects or non-compressed insects. The insect storage and release device includes a removable enclosure and a reticulated foam. The reticulated foam provides compliance during packing of the insects.

An emergence apparatus may include a container, a sensor, and a shutter. The sensor may be positioned proximate to an opening in the container to detect an adult insect entering or exiting the container. The sensor may also determine a sex of the adult insect. The shutter may also be positioned proximate to the opening to the container and may include an open position and a closed position to control access to the container in response to determining the sex of the adult insect or in response to determining a total number of adult insects of a particular sex within the container.

Systems and methods for automated release of insects are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes: an insect storage device defining one or more internal compartments to store a population of insects; a loading mechanism for loading the insect storage device with a population of insects; and an insect release device coupled to the loading mechanism and configured to release into an environment one or more insects from the population of insects in the insect storage device.

Systems and methods for mobile automated mass release of insects

An apparatus may include a vessel having an interior space to receive water and insect pupae. The apparatus may include a release container connected to the vessel and a sensor positioned proximate to the release container to detect an adult insect passing by the sensor and into the release container. A shutter may be positioned proximate to an entrance to the release container. The shutter may have an open position and a closed position to control access between the vessel and the release container.

An apparatus may include a vessel and a first passageway and a second passageway that connect the vessel to a first release container and a second release container, respectively. A first and a second sensor may be positioned proximate to a first and a second release container, respectively. Each sensor may detect an adult insect passing into the respective release container. A first and second shutter may be positioned in the first passageway and the second passageway, respectively. Each shutter may have an open and a closed position to control access to the respective release container. A computing device may receive a first input signal from the first sensor and a second input signal from the second sensor. The first and second shutter may receive a first output signal and a second output signal, respectively, from the computing device to position the respective shutter in the open or closed position.

The present disclosure provides a device for providing connectivity to a balloon network. The device may include a sealed vessel partially filled with a liquid. The device may also include a floating base that is comprised of a material that is positively buoyant in the liquid. The device may also include an antenna coupled to the floating base. The antenna may be configured to receive and emit radiation. The antenna and the floating base may be positioned within the sealed vessel, and the floating base may be configured to position the antenna such that the antenna emits an emission pattern that is substantially perpendicular to a surface of the liquid.
