The present invention provides an opaque resinated Pigment Yellow 12 containing from 10 to 40% by weight of a resin, based on the weight of pigment product.

The present invention provides a novel polymorphic form of Colour Index Pigment Yellow 12 in a crystalline form which exhibits an X-ray diffraction pattern having three prominent X-ray diffraction lines corresponding to 'd' spacings of 11.82, 7.71 and 3.32.times.10.sup.-10 meters.

The present invention provides a method of reducing the tendency of a resinated pigment product to self-heat which comprises treating an aqueous slurry of the pigment with a compound of a multivalent metal or metalloid under conditions such as will precipitate an insoluble compound of the metal or metalloid on the pigment, and then isolating the treated pigment.

The new compound 4-chloro-4-chloromethyloxetan-2-one can be prepared by reacting diketene with sulphuryl chloride under conditions in which free radicals are formed. The 4-chloro-4-chloromethyloxetan-2-one exhibits antimicrobial activity. It is also useful as an intermediate, for example for the production of pigments and dyestuffs.

They can be obtained by reacting diketene with a compound XY in the presence of an agent capable of forming free radicals.
