Systems and methods for controlling a failover response of an autonomous vehicle are provided. In one example embodiment, a method includes determining, by one or more computing devices on-board an autonomous vehicle, an operational mode of the autonomous vehicle. The autonomous vehicle is configured to operate in at least a first operational mode in which a human driver is present in the autonomous vehicle and a second operational mode in which the human driver is not present in the autonomous vehicle. The method includes detecting a triggering event associated with the autonomous vehicle. The method includes determining actions to be performed by the autonomous vehicle in response to the triggering event based at least in part on the operational mode. The method includes providing one or more control signals to one or more of the systems on-board the autonomous vehicle to perform the one or more actions in response to the triggering event.

Vehicle control system

Various examples are directed to a rotary coupler and methods of use thereof. The rotary data coupler may comprise a transmitter and receiver. The transmitter may comprise a first band and a second transmitter band. The receiver may comprise a receiver housing positioned to rotate relative to the first transmitter band and the second transmitter band. A first receiver band may be positioned opposite the first transmitter band to form a first capacitor and a second receiver band may be positioned opposite the second transmitter band to form a second capacitor. The receiver may also comprise a resistance electrically coupled between the first receiver band and the second receiver band and a differential amplifier. The differential amplifier may comprise an inverting input and a non-inverting input, with the non-inverting input electrically coupled to the first receiver band and the inverting input electrically coupled to the second receiver band.

Rotary data coupler

A dual mode electronic intrusion or burglar alarm system for use with a door or window which can be opened and closed comprises a switch actuatable by the door or window, a control circuit, including time delay circuitry, operatively connected to the switch and responsive to switch actuation to operate in either of two modes, and an alarm connected to be operated by the control circuit. When the system is in operation and armed in a first mode, initial actuation of the switch in response to opening of the door or window causes the control circuit to actuate the alarm for a first predetermined interval of time, then to shut off the alarm and arm itself in a second mode wherein subsequent actuation of the switch in response to closing of the door or window causes the control circuit to again actuate the alarm for a second predetermined interval of time. The system can be reset for operation in the first mode either during the first interval of time, or at any time thereafter, i.e., during the time it is armed in the second mode, or during the second interval of time. The system aims to trap, or at least further discourage, an intruder who observes or counts on the fact that the first actuation of the alarm fails to evoke an appropriate security response and returns to complete the intrusion and closes the door or window after entry to provide the appearance of normality.
