A hearing aid assembly includes a receiver speaker enclosed within a receiver housing. The receiver housing defines a circuitous receiver acoustic channel, wherein the receiver channel defines an open side along at least a portion of the receiver channel. The receiver channel also defines a pass-through passage extending from a first side of the receiver housing to a second side of the receiver housing, wherein the pass-through passage is partially defined by the wall defining a receiver opening. The hearing aid assembly also includes an earbud configured to fit over at least a portion of the receiver housing and partially cover the open side of the receiver channel.

Wax protection for in-canal hearing device

An ear-worn electronic device comprises a housing configured to be supported by, at, in or on an ear of a wearer. Electronic circuitry is disposed in the housing and comprises a processor. A power source and a receiver or a speaker are respectively disposed in or on the housing. A microphone array is disposed in or on the housing and operatively coupled to the electronic circuitry. The microphone array comprises a plurality of microphones. The processor is configured to operate a set of two or more of the microphones in a directional mode, detect degradation in performance of any microphone of the microphone set, and switch microphone operation from the directional mode to a safe mode using at least one non-degraded microphone of the microphone set in response to detecting the microphone performance degradation.

Ear-worn electronic device incorporating microphone fault reduction system and method

An ear-wearable electronic device includes one or more processors configured to detect presence of first and second hearing devices in a charging case, and to initiate a self-check protocol by at least one of the first and second hearing devices. The self-check protocol comprises wirelessly coupling the first and second hearing devices, selectively activating at least one electronic component of the first hearing device, and assessing performance of the second hearing device using an output or a response of the at least one electronic component of the first hearing device. The self-check protocol also comprises selectively activating at least one electronic component of the second hearing device, assessing performance of the first hearing device using an output or a response of the at least one electronic component of the second device, and storing results of the performance assessment in a memory.

Self-check protocol for use by ear-wearable electronic devices

Embodiments herein relate to a test shell for assessing fit in an ear of a user of an ear-wearable device, such as a hearing aid. The test shell includes a body having an aperture end and an ear canal end, the aperture end defines a first aperture, and the body defines a shell cavity extending away from the first aperture in a direction of the ear canal end. The body includes a transparent or translucent material and is sized to fit within an ear of the user of an ear-wearable device. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Device to optically verify custom hearing aid fit and method of use

An ear-wearable device is described that includes a plurality of modules that mate together forming a physical outer shell of the ear-wearable device. Each module from the plurality of modules is associated with a different, corresponding feature of the ear-wearable device and each module from the plurality of modules includes a respective physical portion that comprises a different, corresponding part of the outer shell. In addition, each module from the plurality of modules shares a physical interface with at least one other module from the plurality of modules.
