A lift system removes a display unit or components thereof from a tiled display wall in a way that minimizes the risk of damaging the removed display unit and other display units in the tiled display wall. A lifting structure is configured to selectively lift one or more display units away from the desired display unit when the lifting structure is raised by a vertical motion actuator. The lifting structure is further configured to be free to rotate slightly about a vertical axis when lifting the display units, so that the lifted display units are not constrained to purely vertical translation when lifted away from the desired display unit.

A disk is contained within the enclosure where the inner surfaces of the top and bottom shells and the top, bottom and edge surfaces of the disk form a gap sufficiently tight to provide aero damping.

Method and apparatus for dampening disk vibrations

A data storage disk cartridge having a dual housing structure includes an inner housing that contains a disk, and an outer housing that contains the inner housing. The inner housing is at least partially removable from the outer housing for insertion into a disk drive. The outer housing remains external to the disk drive, however, except for a portion that is inserted into the drive to provide a docking channel for retraction of the inner housing. A shutter on the inner housing covers a portion of the disk, but is manipulable by the disk drive to uncover the disk and allow drive access. The dual housing structure of the cartridge is capable of significantly improving disk and drive reliability, particularly for recording applications that require higher areal recording densities, such as near field optical recording. In particular, the disk cartridge reduces the accumulation of debris on the disk and drive components. The dual-housing disk cartridge provides a system of partially redundant barriers that significantly reduce the possibility of debris accumulation. The barriers form a hierarchy of cleanliness that stands between the outside environment and the disk and drive components. Consequently, in a preferred mode, the disk is never exposed to the outside environment. The reduced amounts of debris contribute to more consistent optical and mechanical performance of the disk and drive, and thereby enhance data storage reliability.

Such a system comprises an optical head for reading and writing data and a head positioning system, an optics module including beam relay optics and signal detectors, and a medium holding and loading module to hold an optical medium. The optical head includes a near-field lens with a high index of refraction and in a near-field configuration in which the near-field lens has a numerical aperture greater than unity when the spacing between an exit facet of the optical head and a recording layer in the optical medium is a fraction of one wavelength of optical beam.

Optical storage system including a disc drive and an optical media having a low radial total indicated runout and method of manufacturing such media. The optical media includes a disc substrate having a formatted surface and a center hole. A disc alignment mechanism is provided, wherein the concentric registration of the formatted surface is specified relative to the disc alignment mechanism. A hub having a center hole is positioned at the disc center hole, wherein the hub center hole is centered relative to the disc alignment mechanism. The disc drive includes a drive spindle and a center pin extending from the drive spindle for centering the drive spindle to the optical media.

A data storage cartridge having a data storage disc locking/restraining mechanism. The data storage cartridge includes a shell defined by a cover and a base, within which a disc and the restraining mechanism are disposed. The restraining mechanism operates to restrain the central portion of the data storage disc against the shell when the data storage disc is in a non-operating position. When the data storage disc is in an operating position, the restraining mechanism is disengaged from restraining the disc by the drive spindle independent of a shutter mechanism.

Data storage disk cartridge

A disk cartridge assembly includes an enclosure, a recording disk mounted for rotation in the enclosure, and an electrostatic cleaning element positioned on an interior surface of the enclosure. The cleaning element engages one side of the disk at least when the disk is at rest and when the disk is rotated at a low speed, and the cleaning element is charged to a high voltage.
