There is described a powder isolating valve which is capable of sealing valves from powder leakage during transport of powder and/or granular material. The valve comprises a rotatable valve closure member () and a pneumatically activated sealing mechanism containing a pair of resiliently deformable structures () extending around a surface of the rotatable valve closure member when the latter is in its closed position, the pair of resiliently deformable structures being held in a pair of annular recesses () which also extend around an surface of the rotatable valve closure member in its closed position, wherein the pair of resiliently deformable structures are capable of being pneumatically activated to force a sealing ring () against the rotatable valve closure member.

Powder isolating valve

A pneumatic conveying apparatus operable to transport material from a supply source to a process which requires a rate of change of feed rate far in excess of what is possible from a typical pneumatic conveying system and pipeline alone, and for a process where storage of large volumes of material directly adjacent to the process feed point is either not possible or disadvantageous. The pneumatic conveying apparatus () comprises at least one conduit () and a compression device () operable to supply and transport pneumatic media through at least one conduit (). The supply source () may be a feed hopper and is operable to discharge material into the pneumatic conveying system downstream of the supply source. In the pneumatic conveying system at least one vessel (A,B;) is arranged to receive material from the supply source () and to discharge material to at least one conduit (). The system also includes a filter receiver (), which is configured to simultaneously receive and discharge material and pneumatic media from at least conduit. The filter receiver has a working volume or capacity which is very small in relation to the feed rate, typically 1 to 2 minutes storage when operating at the maximum discharge rate, and with a volume typically &#xbd;th to &#x215b;th of the volume of the vessels feeding material into the start of the pneumatic conveying pipeline. The filter receiver is equipped with a discharge device operable to increase the discharge rate to the process from the minimum feed rate to the maximum feed rate in a time period of 2 to 30 seconds. The filter receiver () is configured and operable to separate material and pneumatic media such that the material can be discharged from the filter receiver to the downstream process (), in order to separate the conveying apparatus from the process and provide further advantages described within the invention. The apparatus includes a control system () that is operable to maintain a target weight and/or level within the filter receiver, and recover the target weight and/or level in the filter receiver, by measuring the weight and/or level and the rate of change of weight or level, of all storage vessels discharging material to the pneumatic conveying pipeline and process and incorporating aspects of closed loop control methodologies.

Pneumatic conveying apparatus

An apparatus and a method for controlling the velocity of a particulate material conveyed by a gas flow under negative pressure in a duct said device comprising means for separating the flow into first and second streams. The first stream has a relatively high particulate material content and the second stream has a relatively low particulate material content. The flow of the second stream is restricted for example by a flow restricting or constricting orifice or valve. The duct diameter may increase incrementally along its length.

Vacuum conveying velocity control apparatus and method for particulate material

Containers, particularly to containers for storing dry granules and powders, for examples silos. A container can include an air filter for cleaning the air that pneumatically conveys bulk product into the container. A valve can be used to restrict the air flow through the air filter, thereby elevating the pressure within the container to above atmospheric pressure.

Container

An elongate container () for the transport of bulk powders is provided along its base with a longitudinally sloping membrane support. A gas permeable membrane () is mounted on the support and the support is itself unsupported relative to the container between its longitudinal and transverse ends. A method of conveying bulk powder using such a container is also described.

Method of pneumatically conveying non-free flowing paste

A method for conveying a non-free flowing paste where the non-free flowing paste is loaded into a vessel or container having a conical lower portion designed to provide mass flow of the paste. A gas is applied to the vessel to cause the paste to flow out. The paste may be transported to another vessel having a mass flow conical lower portion where it may be stored. The paste may then be discharged using a gas to transport the paste to a third vessel having a mass flow conical lower portion where the loaded vessel itself may be transported, such as by boat, to another destination, such as the shore. The third vessel may be disposed vertically or horizontally on the boat. Thereafter, the paste may be transported to a fourth vessel for further transport or the third vessel may be moved from the boat to a truck for further transport. A frame, the size of a shipping container may enclose a vessel or the frame enclosed vessel may be coupled to other frame enclosed vessels.

Pneumatic conveying

An apparatus and method for continuously dispensing particulate material utilizes a transfer vessel which may be placed at a location spaced below and apart from a dispensing vessel. Particulate material may be transferred from the transfer vessel to the dispensing vessel by aerating the particulate material and pneumatically transferring the material to the dispensing vessel through a suitable pipeline. Valving on the dispensing vessel and the transfer vessel prevents loss of pressure from the system during operation. The air supply for transfer and dispensing may be provided by one source. The dispensing unit may continuously dispense material through repeated cycles of transfer of material from the transfer vessel.
