A system for deep deployment of electric submersible pumps is described. In an implementation, an electric submersible pump (ESP) power cable has a strength member that enables the ESP power cable to support itself when lowered deep into a well inside a coiled tubing. The self-supporting ESP power cable frees the coiled tubing from having to carry the weight of the ESP power cable, thereby permitting longer runs of coiled tubing to be suspended into the well. The ESP power cable and the coiled tubing can be anchored independently to a wellhead, and a computing device can monitor the weight loads on the ESP power cable and on the coiled tubing.

Deep deployment system for electric submersible pumps

A technique enables independent lifting of fluids in a well. The technique utilizes an electric submersible pumping system which is disposed in a wellbore and encapsulated by an encapsulating structure. The encapsulating structure has an opening through which well fluid is drawn to an intake of the electric submersible pumping system. A dual path structure is positioned in cooperation with the electric submersible pumping system and the encapsulating structure to create independent flow paths for flow of a gas component and a remaining liquid component of the well fluid. The independent flow paths also are arranged to prevent contact between the well fluid components and a surrounding wellbore wall.

A technique facilitates a water flood, e.g. dump flood, operation. A standard electric submersible pumping system is deployed in a wellbore to draw water from an aquifer or water source zone along the wellbore. A shroud and a crossover port are used in combination with the submersible pumping system to redirect pumped water downwardly along an isolated flow path. The downward flow of pumped water is directed along the wellbore and injected into a desired, injection zone to facilitate recovery of oil or to perform other types of water flood operations.

A wellhead system has a wellhead of a subterranean hydrocarbon well, a coiled tubing hanger in the wellhead, a coiled tubing hanger extension connected to a top portion of the coiled tubing hanger, a first seal inside the coiled tubing hanger extension, the first seal and the coiled tubing hanger extension defining a sealed space in the coiled tubing hanger extension. Coiled tubing extends into the sealed space in the coiled tubing hanger extension and being suspended by the coiled tubing hanger and the coiled tubing hanger extension, the coiled tubing extending into the wellhead. A downhole electrical cable extends through the coiled tubing and into the sealed space in the coiled tubing hanger extension. An electrical connector extends through the seal and is connected electrically to the cable. The electrical connector has an electrical circuit having an electrically open and an electrically closed position.
