A proxy device comprising a processor and a communication interface communicatively coupled to the processor. The communication interface configured to transmit information representative of a second security protocol to a remote control. The remote control operable to transmit communications to a movable barrier operator utilizing a first security protocol. In response to transmitting the information representative of the second security protocol to the remote control, the communication interface receives a first acknowledgement communication from the remote control indicating the remote control utilizes the second security protocol.

In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, a movable barrier operator including a body, a motor supported by the body, and a rotatable drive supported by the body and configured to be connected to an elongated driven member. The movable barrier operator further includes a shaft supported by the body and a compound gear mounted on the shaft. The compound gear includes a first gear operably coupled to a drive shaft of the motor and a second gear operably coupled to the rotatable drive. The first and second gears connected such that turning of the first gear causes turning of the second gear.

Movable barrier operator

A movable barrier operator system including a movable barrier operator configured to be connected to a movable barrier and move the movable barrier. The system includes a remote control configured to utilize a first security protocol to wirelessly transmit a communication to the movable barrier operator and cause the movable barrier operator to move the movable barrier. The movable barrier operator is configured to receive information representative of a second security protocol and to eliminate a compatibility of the movable barrier operator with communications from the remote control utilizing the first security protocol.

In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, a head unit of a movable barrier operator is provided including a motor for moving a movable barrier and a first circuit board operable to provide power to the motor. The head unit includes a fire-resistant container that contains the first circuit board. This permits the electrical components of the head unit that utilize higher voltage, such as 120 volts, to be provided on the first circuit board and contained in the fire-resistant container. The head unit further includes a second circuit board outside of the fire-resistant container and operably coupled to the first circuit board. Because the second circuit board is outside of the fire-resistant container, the second circuit board may contain electrical components of the head unit that operate at lower voltages, such as at or below 24 volts.

An integrated lighting and notification system includes a light fixture connected to an electrical power supply, a camera, a control unit, and a trigger device. The electrical power supply provides electrical power to the light source unit and the camera. The control unit transmits a signal via a network in response to receiving a signal transmitted by the trigger device.

Integrated home lighting and notification system

A security system notifies a user of a security event when a movable barrier operator light turns on. The security system includes a camera in communication with control circuitry and a communication module. The control circuitry is configured to control operation of the camera. The communication module communicates with a light status detector that determines the status of an operator light associated with a movable barrier operator. When the operator light turns on, the light status detector sends a signal to the communication module, effecting the control circuitry to operate the camera to capture security data. The communication module then transmits the captured security data over a network to be accessible by a mobile device.

A movable barrier system wherein the trolley system comprises at least two guiding rail portions. At least one of the guiding rail portions is supported by a support member secured to the headroom area of the building support structure. The trolley traverses the at least two guiding rail portions by a hinged coupling device.

A self-retracting air compressor assembly includes a motorized pump device that drives in opposing directions. A reservoir tank is in fluid communication with the pump device and stores air pumped by the pump device. The air compressor includes a cord assembly that supplies air and electrical power from the pump device. The air compressor assembly pumps air when the motor is driving in a pumping direction, and self-retracts the cord assembly when the motor is driving in a winding direction.

A hydraulic brake apparatus, a movable barrier apparatus, a hydraulic brake kit, a method of stopping movement of a movable barrier, and a method installing a hydraulic brake assembly are described herein. A selectively operable piston mechanism converts rotation of a drive shaft of a movable barrier into hydraulic pressure used to operate a brake configured to stop movement of the drive shaft.

A fluid-based spring counterbalance mechanism comprising an elastic flexible fluid-based spring disposed between a first plate and a second plate, each plate having a surface in contact with an end of the fluid-based spring. The counterbalance mechanism supports some or all of the weight of a movable barrier. A mechanism is configured to compress the flexible fluid-based spring between the respective surfaces of the two plates in response to motion of the movable barrier. By compressing the fluid-based spring, the counterbalance mechanism provides a force opposed to movement of the movable barrier.

Air spring counterbalance

A method and apparatus converts the speed and torque of a motor output and couples the adjusted output to a device or structure, such as a movable barrier. In one example, a conversion apparatus includes a first gear set, a second gear set, a third gear set, and a fourth gear or ring gear. The first gear set may engage a motor output and receive rotational input therefrom. The rotational input is transferred from the first to the second gear set and then to the third gear set, which may engage a ring gear. In one configuration, a carrier is disposed about the gear sets. Carrier fasteners may extend through openings in the third gear set and, as the third gear set travels around the ring gear, the carrier fasteners may revolve around a central axis and rotate a carrier output shaft.

Converting the speed and torque of a motor

Methods of operating a fluid-based spring counterbalance mechanism for a movable barrier are used to support a portion of the weight of the movable barrier. A jackshaft is configured to be operatively coupled to the movable barrier such that rotation of the jackshaft raises or lowers the movable barrier. The jackshaft is operatively coupled to a rotatable input shaft of the fluid-based spring counterbalance mechanism. The rotatable input shaft is coupled to a flexible-walled fluid-based spring. Applying a first force by a movable barrier operator changes the position of the movable barrier, and the flexible-walled fluid-based spring exerts a second force that supports a portion of the weight of the movable barrier in addition to the first force.
