The disclosed tools include are tools to efficiently protect privacy for end users and others on the Internet when communicating with others. Specifically, tools disclosed include tools to enable an end user's device to communicate via email with others such as relying-parties such as merchants without revealing her information to the relying-party such as her email address, name or any other information she desires to keep confidential while still being able to have commercially useful transactions with the relying parties and others.

Privacy friendly communication by operation of cloaked/decloaked email

System and computer readable media embodiments of enhanced and flexible login and profile management tools as well as brand owner communication tools are provided which provide more flexibility in regards to information sharing that benefit both users and brand owners and ease the integration of user information into brand owner databases. System and computer readable media embodiments are also provided for an end user to control both how and who uses her personal data. Specifically, these embodiments permit her to authorize which pieces of personal data may be used by particular actors to perform particular tasks. In addition, these embodiments allow the tasks to be performed while simultaneously limiting the number of actor(s)/servers/devices in possession of her personal data.

Consumer and brand owner data management tools and consumer privacy tools

A system and method for directing self-targeted advertising to users who are interested in receiving it. A user creates or adopts one or more personas that define a number of characteristics that the user has or wants to be associated with. The characteristics of the personas can be used by advertisers to define members of a target audience. Each persona included in a target audience has an address or identifier to which ads are sent. In one embodiment, users are shown a user interface screen with icons representing a number of brands. The user provides input that indicates whether they have different opinions of the brands. Based on the input received, an estimate is made of the likelihood that the user has a number of characteristics. In one embodiment, the user can arrange the icons representing the brands on the user interface screen to indicate if the user likes or dislikes the brand.

Method and apparatus for displaying ads directed to personas having associated characteristics

The disclosed tools use a plurality of substantially low powered data signal transmitters and receiving tools, such as beacons to provide a location and contextually aware system. Specifically, the disclosed technology can greatly enhance personalization of information or advertising that is delivered to a user via analyzing the proximity data that is transmitted by a beacon.

System and method for detecting mutually supported capabilities between mobile devices

A method of displaying a tutorial to a user of a mobile device is disclosed. In some examples, the mobile device receives an input associated with one or more user functions of the mobile device and launches a locally based application in response to the received input. The locally based application may output instructions to the user explaining to the user how to implement the one or more user functions.
