An image processing system,is arranged to produce data representing a combined image from foreground data F representing a foreground subject in front of a chroma backing and background data B representing a background image. The foreground data is processed and color corrected to produce first and second processed foreground data which is combined in a combiner,under the control of a first key K,. The background data is processed using a second key K,to &ldquo;cut&rdquo; a &ldquo;hole&rdquo; in the background image. The processed background data and the combined foreground data are added together in an adder,A third key K,is used to remove unwanted data from the added foreground and background data and to combine the resulting data with the processed background data in a combiner

Image processing system

A video graphics system is provided with a framestore 3 and a viewing store 10. The framestore 3 is arranged to receive new image data created by a processor 6 in response to user manipulations of a stylus/touch tablet device 1. The framestore 3 and the viewing store 10 both have the capacity to store a high definition image and to facilitate display of the image on a high definition monitor 13 the framestore is arranged to transfer only portions of its data contents to the viewing store 10 during a frame period. The portion transferred is determined by the position of the stylus on the touch tablet at the beginning of a frame period. Data in the viewing store 10 is output in faster sequence for display on the monitor 13.

The system comprises a memory formed of several disk stores for storing data representing at least one image and a working framestore for temporarily storing one or two frames of image data. Data in the framestore is modified by a processor under operator control. Data is stored in the disk stores by switching selected pixels from each line and selected lines from the or each frame, by way of switches and buffers, to respective disk stores such that the image data is divided into groups which each define a lower resolution version of the whole image frame.

A method of and apparatus for displaying an image clip comprising a plurality of image frames on an electronic monitor includes separating each image frame from the next image frame by an overscan period. In this way image frames captured at a first frame rate can be displayed at the first frame rate on a monitor arranged normally to display images at a second frame rate, different to the first frame rate. In practice, the overscan period is created by adjusting driving circuitry for the monitor to increase the number of lines of data output to the monitor during a frame or field period whilst maintaining the line rate constant.

Method of and apparatus for displaying images at different rates

A video processing system which can produce a different shape of output picture than the input. Addresses into which incoming picture points must be written to produce the desired shape changes are stored in a shape store. These addresses can also be manipulated in real time so that the position of the shape they define is changed. For example a Mercator projection of a map can be projected onto a globe and this globe could then be tilted, rotated etc.

A video signal processing system changes the shape of a video frame so that it appears to take the form of a three dimensional object. The system also applies shading to the object in response to an imaginary light source. The address data is processed to produce light intensity factors and the value of each pixel in each video frame is adjusted in response to a light intensity factor.

A system for converting video signals from a scanner from, for example, an air surveillance system comprising an interface (2) which applies incoming video signals directly to a bulk store (5) and to a scan converter (4). The interface can also apply signals from the bulk store to the scan converter. The signals received from the bulk store can be processed differently from those received directly by the scan converter. This system allows maximum possible resolution of the image to be maintained for zoom in and for roaming.

Video scan conversion

A video processing system in which the shape or size of an image can be altered by providing a map of address signals representing the addressess in the store to which input video signals must be written to produce the desired change. These addresses can be manipulated so that there are a number of changes to the image. Where there is an expansion in the image the address signals are filtered to prevent picture break up. The incoming video signals are written into the filtered addresses and then new picture points are interpolated to produce the desired expansion.
