Lighting apparatus for high pressure underwater use are disclosed. In one embodiment the lighting apparatus comprises a housing for withstanding ambient exterior pressure at a depth of approximately 500 feet or more, a transparent pressure bearing window positioned at a forward end of the housing, and a multilayered stack for bearing substantially all of the loading applied to the transparent pressure bearing window at a depth of approximately 500 feet or more disposed in the housing behind the transparent pressure bearing window is disclosed.

An underwater light or submersible luminaire may include a housing and a transparent pressure bearing window positioned at a forward end of the housing. A window supporting structure may be mounted in the housing behind the transparent window. A printed circuit board element having a plurality of LEDs may be positioned within the housing behind the window supporting structure to bear substantially all of the ambient water pressure applied to the transparent window.

A submersible luminaire includes a housing and a transparent pressure bearing window positioned at a forward end of the housing. Window supporting structure is mounted in the housing behind the transparent window. A water-tight seal is located between the window and the housing. A circuit element is configured and positioned within the housing behind the window supporting structure to bear at least some of the pressure applied to the transparent window. At least one solid state light source is mounted on the circuit element behind the transparent window.

Submersible LED light fixture with multilayer stack for pressure transfer

A deep submersible light may include a body defining a hollow interior and a solid state light source such as a plurality of high brightness LEDs mounted in the interior of the body. A transparent window may be mounted over the LEDs. The space between the transparent window and the LEDs may be filled with an optically transparent fluid, gel, or grease, which allows light to pass through and ambient water pressure to pass in, thus pressure compensating the LEDs by allowing them to see ambient water pressure. The transparent window may be mounted in the body for reciprocation in both a forward direction and a rearward direction to accommodate volumetric changes in the compensating fluid, gel, or grease caused by changes in temperature and water pressure as the manned or remotely piloted submarine travels from the sea surface to deep ocean depths.

LED lights including a metal core printed circuit board (MCPCB) having a rear side and a front side are disclosed. At least one LED may be mounted to the front side of the MCPCB. A transparent window may be mounted and sealed to the front side of the MCPCB to enclose the LED. A portion of the MCPCB may extend from the transparent window so that it can be in heat exchange contact with water when the window of the lighting fixture is submerged in water or other fluids.
