The present application discloses biodegradable polymers, to porous and other materials comprising such polymers, and to various medical uses of such materials, including use as a scaffold for supporting cell adhesion or the in-growth for regeneration of tissue. The polymer is of the formula A-O&#x2014;(CHRCHRO)&#x2014;B wherein A is a poly(lactide-co-glycolide) residue, the molar ratio of (i) lactide units [&#x2014;CH(CH)&#x2014;COO&#x2014;] and (ii) glycolide units [&#x2014;CH&#x2014;COO&#x2014;] in the poly(lactide-co-glycolide) residue being in the range of 80:20 to 10:90, B is either a poly(lactide-co-glycolide) residue or hydrogen, C-alkyl or hydroxy protecting groups, one of Rand Ris hydrogen or methyl, and the other is hydrogen, n is 10-1000, the molar ratio of (iii) polyalkylene glycol units [&#x2014;(CHRCHRO)&#x2014;] to the combined amount of (i) lactide units and (ii) glycolide units in the poly(lactide-co-glycolide) residue(s) is at the most 14:86, and the molecular weight of the copolymer is at least 20,000 g/mol.

Medical dressing comprising an antimicrobial silver compound

We add discontinuous regions of Extra Cellular Matrix (ECM) to a biodegradable scaffold. Hereby it is possible to combine the range of physical properties the scaffold can offer with the reconstructive properties of the ECM. The optimal amount of discrete ECM material for each application is disclosed and this concentration is equally distributed in the dressing hence avoiding unnecessary high concentrations of ECM. In addition to the effect of the ECM, the porous structure of the base material provides the cells with a structure for in-growth.

Biodegradable scaffold with ECM material

The invention relates to a foam dressing with a bevelled edge and where the density at the edge is higher than the density at the central part of the foam. The high density at the edges causes gel blocking of the wound exudate thereby preventing leakage of exudate through the edges. In a preferred embodiment the foam dressing is non-adhesive. The foam dressing may have a water-impervious backing layer, which extends all the way over the top of the dressing and down to the wound-contacting surface. The wound dressing is particularly useful in treatment of venous ulcers in connection with compression bandages, as the bevelling of the edges markedly reduces the indentations in the leg following use of this dressing when compared to a dressing with straight edges.

A stabilised composition having antibacterial, antiviral and/or antifungal activity, said composition comprising silver ions and a ligand, characterised in that the composition comprises a complex of silver and a ligand selected from the group consisting of 5,5-disubstituted hydantoins in which the substituents do not comprise conjugated unsaturated bonds and barbituric acid and derivatives thereof stabilising silver ions against reduction to free silver in a hydrophilic environment, and that the composition has a solubility in water higher than 10 mg Ag/l is stable during sterilisation and retains the activity without giving rise to darkening or discoloration of the dressing during storage.

A method for preparing a non-fibrous porous material essentially consisting of one or more hydrophilic polymeric components(s) or one or more hydrophilic polymeric component(s) and one or more pharmaceutical medicaments, the method comprising forming an aqueous solution, sol or gel comprising one or more hydrophilic polymers and/or pharmaceutical medicaments, freezing or foaming the solution, dehydrating the frozen or foamed solution leaving a non-fibrous porous material in a solid, porous form, and optionally subjecting the resulting porous material to a dry heat treatment.
