Disclosed herein a dental mill blank and a method of forming the dental mill blank. The dental mill blank includes a first layer of a first hard restorative material having a first translucency and a first shade, a second layer of a second hard restorative material having a second translucency and a second shade, where at least one of the following is true (1) the first translucency is different from the second translucency, (2) the first shade is different from the second shade. The first layer and the second layer form a first interface having a first curve across a first plane of symmetry of the dental mill blank, where the first curve has a different from zero curvature; and a first straight line along the entire length of a second plane of the dental mill blank, the second plane being orthogonal to the first plane of symmetry.

A multifunctional polymerizable ionic liquid is described comprising an anion and a cationic group having at least two ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable groups, each bonded to the cationic group via a divalent non-alkyl linking group. The multifunctional linking groups independently comprise a heteroatom such as oxygen or nitrogen. The linking groups may independently comprise one or more linkages such as an amide, urea, and more typically a urethane or ester linkage. The ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable groups are typically (meth)acrylate groups. Coatings and coated articles are also described.

Polymerizable ionic liquid comprising multifunctional cation and antistatic coatings

Presently described are curable dental compositions comprising a polymerizable ionic liquid. The polymerizable ionic liquid comprises one or more ethylenically unsaturated (e.g. free-radically polymerizable) groups. Various embodiments of curable dental compositions are described. In some embodiments, the polymerizable ionic liquid is a monofunctional polymerizable ionic liquid comprising an ethylenically unsaturated group. In other embodiments, the polymerizable ionic liquid is a multifunctional polymerizable ionic liquid comprising at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups. The curable dental compositions describe herein can be utilized as dental primers, dental adhesives, dental sealants, and dental composites. In many embodiments, the curable dental compositions further comprise an initiator such as a photoinitiator.

Curable dental compositions and articles comprising polymerizable ionic liquids

Presently described are curable compositions comprising a mixture of at least one (e.g. free-radically) polymerizable ionic liquid and at least one other ethylenically unsaturated monomer, oligomer, or polymer. The polymerizable ionic liquid is characterized as having an air to nitrogen curing exotherm ratio of at least 0.70. Also described are articles and methods of making articles from such curable compositions. A monofunctional polymerizable ionic liquid is also described comprising a non-polymerizable substituted imidazolium cationic group and a polymerizable sulfonate anion.

The invention features a hardenable dental composition, e.g., polymerizable dental restoratives, adhesives, etc., that contain a color-stable amine electron donor in an initiation system for initiating polymerization of the composition.

Carbosilane monomers that include the following structural features: at least two Si-arylene bonds; at least one (meth)acrylate moiety; no Si&#x2014;O bonds; and preferably at least two silicon atoms.

Dental compositions containing carbosilane monomers

The present invention provides a dental paste, a dental article, methods of making and using the dental paste, and compositions prepared therefrom. In one embodiment, the dental paste includes (a) a filler including porous, non-pyrogenic silica having a silane treated surface and being substantially free of heavy metals and (b) a filler including non-aggregated primary silica particles, with the fillers being dispersed in a hardenable resin.

Dental pastes, dental articles, and methods

Dental resin cement materials having unique handling properties are provided that comprise a) filler, b) polymerizable resin, and c) a polymeric handling modifier that is dispersed in the polymerizable resin at 25&#xb0; C. and that has a molecular weight of between about 500 and 100,000. Components a) b) and c) are present in an amount effective to achieve a Viscosity vs Shear Rate Curve that fits a power law model of F(x)=Ax. The correlation value of the material to this curve is greater than 0.85 for both the increasing and decreasing shear rate curves, and the value of B is less than about &#x2212;0.01. Resin cements are also provided that comprise acid functionality and water, but which do not comprise an acid reactive filler. Such cements may be self etching, thereby avoiding the need to carry out a separate acid etch step.

Dental resin cements having improved handling properties

The invention provides for a material comprising(a) a hardenable resin; and (b) a filler comprising (i) clusters of nano-sized particles, the clusters comprising non-beavy metal oxide particles and heavy metal oxides, and being not fully densified particles and (ii) non-agglomerated nano-sized particles selected from the group consisting of non-heavy metal oxide particles, heavy metal oxide particles, and combinations thereof. The material is suitable for use as dental materials.

Aesthetic dental materials

A fiber optic connector including a holder for one ore more optical cables, each optical cable having an optical fiber surrounded by strengthening fibers, both of which are surrounded by at least one polymeric coating layer. The cable is stripped in a layerwise manner such that an area of exposed fiber is succeeded by an area of exposed strengthening fibers, succeeded by an area of coated cable. A visible light curable adhesive is injected into the holder and cured by exposure to visible light for up to about 30 seconds, bonding the optical fiber layers and the holder into a unified structure.
