The present invention relates a method for traffic steering in a communication network comprising at least two technology layers. The method comprising utilizing one or more policies for traffic steering, selecting one or more users in a first technology layer according to the selected policies and preparing a movement of one or more selected users to a second technology layer. Moreover, the present invention relates to an apparatus and computer program product.

Method for traffic steering and network element

A traffic adjustment or a traffic command, for example, is based on data congestion on a cellular network. Position data is received from a mobile device. A portion of a cellular network that corresponds to the position data is selected. The portion of the cellular network may be the geographic area covered by a cell. The network state of the portion of the cellular network is identified. A traffic device is also identified. The traffic device may be a traffic light or a variable speed sign. The traffic adjustment or traffic command for the traffic device is calculated based on the network state.

Methods, apparatus, and program products are disclosed. Network information is accessed that corresponds to network elements in one or more wireless networks. Each of the one or more networks has an ability to serve multiple user equipment. Customer data is accessed that corresponds to the multiple user equipment in the networks. One or more optimization insights are generated using the network information and the customer data. The one or more generated optimization insights are utilized as one or more inputs to one or more pre-defined business policy-based workflows for a purpose of determining one or set of optimization functions. Execution of one or more selected optimization functions is orchestrated and the optimization function(s) are supplied with one or more of the generated optimization insights. The execution of the selected optimization function(s) cause triggering of action(s) defined to influence a selected one of the networks to provide an intended result.

A network for a cellular communication system comprises access points (-) supporting cells within a region (). Each access point (-) has an individual proxy address of a proxy address space which is a local address space of an address proxy () and a common network address of a network address space which is a network wide address space. A gateway access point () covers an entry point to the region () and detects a remote station entering the region. It then determines an access point () in the region to which the remote station is handed over and transmits a binding message to the address proxy () with an indication of the access point (). In response to receiving the binding message, the address proxy () establishes a binding between the common network address and the proxy address of the access point (). Data for the remote station is then forwarded to the access point () using the binding.

A wireless communication system () uses communications bridging functions to establish redundant communication paths () between redundant radio access network session clients (), a core systemand a base transceiver station (). The invention provides for path optimization for routing of a communication session in a network having a plurality of core networks coupled to a plurality of access networks. Both a core network and an access network perform the path optimization by determining a plurality of possible paths to a plurality of target access points to form a target matrix, determining a corresponding route preference factor for each possible path of the target matrix, and selecting, from the target matrix, a possible path having an optimal route preference factor. An overall or complete path, for routing of the communication session, is then determined either by combining the selected possible paths, or by selecting one possible path as a complete path. The route preference factor, for each possible path, is determined based upon various routing variables, such as quality of service, bandwidth for the communication session, route complexity, interconnect cost, routing cost; resource loading, resource availability, and operator preference for traffic biasing.
