An aircraft tire condition monitoring system includes a reader mounted in the fuselage of an aircraft and an antenna that defines a peripheral boundary proximate the circumference of a tire of the aircraft. The antenna is electrically coupled to the reader to facilitate the communication of signals from a transponder located within the tire. The antenna may be located within the tire, or it may be located on the aircraft fuselage.

Aircraft tire condition monitoring system and method

Antenna constructions for electronic devices and methods of manufacturing such antenna constructions. The electronic device comprises a transponder and an antenna electrically coupled with the transponder. The antenna has a core of a first material and a coating of a second material on the core. The second material has a higher electrical conductivity than the first material and/or a lower permeability than the first material. The coating on the core also has a predetermined thickness. The electronic devices may be used in tires.

A bond of a rubbery component to a virgin surface of a tire's cured innerliner which virgin surface has never been contaminated by the remnants of a release agent left after buffing with a wire brush and solvent-cleaning the cured innerliner, is unexpectedly stronger than a bond of the component to the contaminated but 'cleaned surface', cleaned as indicated. As an alternative, buffing with a wire brush results in a textured surface that impairs adhesion of a balance pad. Therefore, a pneumatic tire is provided with a virgin surface protected against contamination by a release agent at the curing temperature of the tire; protection is provided by a self-supporting barrier film of sulfur non-vulcanizable, expandable, thermoformable synthetic resinous material; and, a method is provided for maintaining a virgin cured surface within all or part of either the exterior or interior of a pneumatic tire's rubber carcass which is conventionally cured. The barrier film which is substantially inextensible at ambient temperature, is removable without tearing into pieces from the protected surface of the cured tire. When the interior surface is provided by an innerliner, any component to be included within the interior of the carcass may be adhesively secured to the virgin surface of the innerliner more securely than has been heretofore possible.

An integrated tire monitoring system for an agricultural vehicle control system comprises at lease one sensor integrally coupled to at least one tire on a farm vehicle; an external reader for obtaining tire revolution speed data from the sensor during each revolution of the tire; input means for delivering the tire revolution speed data to a vehicle control unit, the vehicle control unit calculating vehicle speed based on the inputted tire revolution speed data and outputting at least one control signal. The reader may input tire pressure data from the sensor into the vehicle control unit for the calculation of pressure adjusted vehicle speed. The sensor may store tire specific identification data accessible by the external reader and one or more control signals from the vehicle ECU may be used to control speed between a plurality of vehicle wheels; engine speed; wheel slippage; and/or tire air pressure. The vehicle control unit may further evaluate work efficacy of the vehicle based upon the calculated vehicle speed and communicate display data of the results to an operator of the vehicle.

Integrated sensor system and method for a farm tire

An antenna conductor is electrically coupled to a transponder and antenna conductor ends are spliced. The antenna conductor and the transponder are formed into a ring assembly and at least partially embedded within an adhesive material. The annular assembly affixes to a tire by means of the adhesive material.

An annular antenna and transponder are affixed to a tire using the transponder as a counterweight to offset tire imbalance. The annular antenna is attached to an inner tire surface and is coupled electrically to a transponder device and is fixed relative to a housing in which the transponder device is packaged. The mass of the transponder housing is used specifically to counterbalance tire imbalance by first ascertaining the position at which a counterbalance would prove to be beneficial and then affixing the annular assembly to the tire so as to position the mass of the transponder housing at the optimal location for counterbalancing benefit.

Apparatus and method for measuring adhesion capability in a tire liner, the apparatus including a film strip attaching to the tire liner and having a through opening and an attachment interface distanced from the opening; an adhesive backed cover member attaching to the film strip in covering relationship to the strip opening and a cover member surface portion establishing an adhesive bond with the tire liner through the film strip opening; means attached to the strip attachment interface for exerting a directional peeling force upon the strip sufficient to unitarily peel the film strip and the cover member from the tire liner; and means for measuring the directional peeling force.

A method of assembling the annular antenna and transponder tag includes formation of the antenna wire with an insulating cover therearound; cutting the covered antenna to length; stripping antenna wire ends; threading one antenna wire end through the transponder; splicing the antenna wire ends together; and injecting an insulating composition around the transponder tag and spliced antenna ends.

An annular tire tread belt is assembled of uncured resilient material having reinforcing cords. An annular container of resilient material has reinforcing cords extending between annular bead rings at the edges. The container is shaped in a toroidal configuration and the tread belt stuck to the container by a layer of suitable tacky barrier material with sufficient tack to maintain the tread belt in a centered position on the container for engagement with a centered portion of the mold. The barrier material also is sufficiently incompatible with the materials of the container and tread belt to prevent appreciable chemical bonding across the interface during curing of the tread belt. After at least partial curing of the tread belt, the tread belt is detached from the container and is ready for use in a tire.

An annular hollow tire with an inner surface having a generally positive radius of curvature and at least one circumferentially extending rib portion on the inner surface with a negative radius of curvature located at an area of the tire subject to high stresses to mitigate the stress concentrations in that area of the tire. The method of making the tire includes the steps of providing a tire mold with a core having a selected circumferentially extending portion on the outer surface with a negative radius of curvature for forming the rib portion, filling the space between the core and mold surface with an elastomeric precursor, heating to set the precursor and form the tire and removing the tire from the mold and the core from the tire.
