A coating composition is described that has good film forming and blocking properties in a composition that also has low or no VOCs. The coating compositions herein include functionalized urethane (meth)acrylate polymers that allow better film formation and particle coalescence while maintaining the low or no VOC levels. In one aspect, the coating compositions include functionalized polymers with a higher glass transition temperature (Tg) to aid in achieving good block resistance but a low minimum film forming temperature (MFFT) to achieve good particle coalescence and film formation all while being substantially free of co-solvents, coalescent aid and/or plasticizers.

Functionalized polymer compositions for low VOC coalescence of water based emulsions

Disclosed is a coating composition suitable for coating onto a wall or other substrate to yield a dry-erase coating, The composition may be prepared by reacting an excess amount of an aminosilane with a carbonate, an epoxy alcohol, or both in aqueous media to yield a silylurethane, and/or a silylamino polyol. In some approaches, the compositions and/or methods may further include an epoxysilane, and allowing the epoxysilane to react with the aminosilane to yield an aminodisilane. This reaction will result in a coating composition that comprises one of a silylurethane, a silylamino polyol, or both, and the aminodisilane. The aqueous mixture of the silylurethane, the silylamino polyol, or both, and the aminodisilane together constitute a coating composition that, upon curing, forms a dry-erase coating.

1K waterborne dry-erase coating composition

A coating composition can be made by providing an aminoalkoxysilane and, in the substantial absence of water, reacting at least a portion of the aminoalkoxysilane with at least one epoxide-containing compound including an aliphatic group to yield at least one alkoxysilylamine, and then reacting the alkoxysilylamine with at least one isocyanate reagent containing at least two isocyanate groups to yield a monomer having plural alkoxysilane groups and, in many embodiments, at least two branched aliphatic groups having at least six carbon atoms. A coating composition thus formed exhibits high durability and good flexibility. Also disclosed is a method of applying a coating composition to a substrate and allowing the coating composition to cure, and the cured coating resulting from such application.

1K high hardness, high impact resistance coating

This reaction will result in a coating composition that comprises the silylurethane and the aminodisilane. The aqueous mixture of the silylurethane and the aminodisilane together constitute a coating composition that, upon curing, forms a dry-erase coating.

Disclosed is a coating composition suitable for coating onto a wall or other substrate to yield a dry-erase coating. The composition may be prepared by providing an aminoalkoxysilane, and in the substantial absence of water, reacting a portion of the aminoalkoxysilane with a carbonate and reacting a portion of the aminoalkoxysilane with an epoxy compound. These reactions will result in a coating composition that comprises a mixture of alkoxysilylamines and alkoxysilylcarbamates. The coating composition can also include an alkyl amine in an amount effective to catalytically deprotect alkoxy groups to yield silanol groups, facilitating fast crosslinking.
