The present invention is directed to a lateral flow assay device for the monitoring and measuring of coagulation and method thereof. Ideally, the invention is directed to a lateral capillary flow device for the monitoring and/or measurement of coagulation in a liquid sample wherein the device comprises a non-porous substrate with a zone for receiving a sample and a defined flow path zone wherein a clotting agent is deposited on at least part of the defined flow path zone to accelerate the coagulation of the liquid sample, enable the formation of an evenly distributed clot along the defined flow path zone and to result in the change in flow rate or cessation of flow of the liquid sample along the defined flow path zone.

Lateral flow assay device for coagulation monitoring and method thereof

A sensor comprising a substrate () having a first surface () and a second surface () is described. The first surface has at least one sensor site () provided thereon. The substrate is configured such that on excitation of a sample provided at the sensor site, luminescence originating from the sensor site propagates into the substrate, the second surface of the substrate being configured to selectively transmit the luminescence propagating within the substrates at angles greater than the critical angle out of the substrate where it may be detected by a detector () provided below the substrate.

The present application provides a system () that comprises a mobile phone () to allow testing of samples from a patient at the point of care or environmental/industrial process monitoring tests to be performed in the field. This present disclosure provides an optical chip for fluorescence detection. The optical chip has one or more parabolic optical elements that capture and collimate the fluorescent light and direct it onto a detector. The optical chip may be constructed of a polymer and made using injection molding techniques.

The invention provides a luminescent based sensor having a luminescent material optically coupled to a substrate, and adapted to be used in a medium or environment such as water or air. A detector is provided to detect light that is emitted into the substrate by the material. The substrate is adapted to redirect light that is emitted into the substrate at angles with the range &#x3b8;? &#x3b8; ? &#x3b8;where &#x3b8;is the critical angle of the environment/substrate interface and &#x3b8;is the critical angle of the luminescent layer/substrate interface. Examples of possible configurations are described.

Luminescence based sensor using protuberances to redirect light

The present invention relates to a device for measuring both the color and turbidity of a liquid sample. LEDs are used as light sources and reference detectors are included to control the output of the LEDs. The device is also capable of monitoring and correcting for fouling of optical surfaces. The device is intended to be installed in-line in a mains water supply line. The device can be used in domestic water meters or on sewage treatment sites to monitor the effluent discharged back to the river.
