A system and method are provided for certificate selection in infrastructures such as those planned to be used for V2V messaging, wherein the vehicle (or other moving object)'s location is used to aid in the selection of certificates. In one aspect, there is provided a method of selecting certificates for vehicle-to-vehicle messaging, the method comprising: determining a location for a vehicle; and adapting reuse of certificates in a certificate pool for the vehicle according to the location. In another aspect, there is provided a method of selecting certificates for vehicle-to-vehicle messaging, the method comprising: determining an amount of messaging activity; and adapting reuse of certificates in a certificate pool for the vehicle according to the amount of messaging activity.

System and method for certificate selection in vehicle-to-vehicle applications to enhance privacy

The present invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art by enabling a sender to easily and automatically track mail. The foregoing is accomplished by first requiring the sender to register the sender's acquisition and possession of a booklet of tracking labels. Sender may indicate to the system the nature of the automated tracking sender wishes (delivery only, failure only, mailing events forwarding, etc.) Sender may override the system for specific mail. Sender is in possession of the labels contained in the booklet which may be wrapped with tamper evidencing material, may register the labels by entering the booklet security code as well as the first sequential label tracking code in a system. The booklet security code is not obtained until the tampering evidencing material is opened.

A system and method including cameras for monitoring objects such as documents, at multiple locations, and for recording the objects' movement through space and time. The objects are marked with unique identifiers, and the invention is adaptable for recording and recognizing the objects' development using character recognition. A center receives the information from the cameras, and that information is searchable. Advantageously, the unique identifiers are printed with ink that is invisible unless it fluoresces or phosphoresces, the digital cameras include an ultraviolet flash to cause the identifiers to fluoresce or phosphoresce at a certain wavelength, and the cameras are equipped with filters to filter out wavelengths other than the certain wavelength. Packages or pads of pre-marked blank paper are adaptable for use with the present invention.

A method to facilitate electronic refunds in an online commercial transaction by establishing communication over a network between a payment computer and a buyer computer includes creating at the payment computer a vault and a refund account for a buyer; receiving at the payment computer a plurality of requests from the buyer computer to purchase items, each of the plurality of requests being associated with a corresponding one of the items; accepting the plurality of requests to purchase items and debiting the vault to account for all costs related to the items; receiving at the payment computer from the buyer computer a buyer selected request to refund the cost of at least one of the corresponding ones of the items; and upon receipt of the request to refund, the payment computer accounts for the cost of the at least one of the corresponding ones of the items in the refund account and credits the vault with the cost of the at least one of the corresponding ones of the items thereby effectuating a refund to the buyer.

A method and a system for metering an advertisement having a message to be presented to a plurality of users of a communications network, wherein the metering is used to count the number of times the message is actually presented to one or more users.
