A process for separating a gaseous mixture comprising C.sub.1 chlocarbons and noncondensible gases into a liquid component comprising the C.sub.1 chlorocarbons and a component comprising the noncondensible gases. The method employs a liquid hydrocarbon having an average molecular weight within a range of about 142 to 422 to adsorb the C.sub.1 chlorocarbons from the gaseous mixture. The present process is especially useful for separating methyl chloride from a gaseous mixture resulting from an oxychlorination process where the gaseous mixture further comprises, methane, water vapor, and hydrogen chloride.

Process for recovery of methyl chloride

A process for reacting organodisilanes with organic halides to form monosilanes. The process comprises heating a mixture comprising an organodisilane and an organic halide at a temperature within a range of about 100.degree. C. to 350.degree. C. The process is especially useful for reacting alkenyl chlorides, such as allyl chloride, with organodisilanes to form organomonosilanes having alkenyl substitution. The process is also useful for converting a high-boiling organodisilane containing fraction from a direct process for forming organosilanes into more useful monosilanes.

A process for reacting organic halides with disilanes to form monosilanes. The process uses disubstituted palladium compounds as catalysts. The process is especially useful for reacting alkenyl chlorides, such as allyl chloride, with disilanes to form monosilanes having alkenyl substitution. The process is also useful for converting the high-boiling disilane containing fraction resulting from the direct process for forming organosilanes into more useful monosilanes.

A process for the production of monosilanes from the high-boiling residue resulting from the reaction of organohalides with silicon metalloid in a process typically referred to as the 'direct process.' The present process comprises forming a mixture comprising an organotrihalosilane and the high-boiling residue in the presence of hydrogen gas and a catalytic amount of aluminum trichloride. The present process results in consumption of the organotrihalosilane rather than a net increase which typically occurs in processes for hydrogenation of the high-boiling residue. At least a portion of the catalytic amount of aluminum trichloride may be formed in situ during conduct of the direct process and isolation of the high-boiling residue.

The present invention is a process for the production of silanes from the contact of silicon metal or a silicon containing material with hydrogen chloride. The described process employs a metal or metal compound on a solid support as a catalyst which increases the production of tetrachlorosilane. The metal or metal compound is selected from a group consisting of palladium and palladium compounds, rhodium and rhodium compounds, platinum and platinum compounds, iridium and iridium compounds, tin and tin compounds, nickel and nickel compounds, and aluminum and aluminum compounds. The process is run at a temperature of about 250.degree. C. to 500.degree. C.

Supported metal catalyzed production of tetrachlorosilane

The instant invention is a catalyzed process for the redistribution of linear, chloride or hydroxy end-terminated polyorganosiloxanes or cyclic polyorganosiloxanes. Effective catalysts for the described process are alumina, silica-alumina, activated carbon, zeolite, and acid clay. The catalyzed redistribution process can be incorporated as an element of a three-stage process. The three-stage process allows control of the yield of cyclic polyorganosiloxanes.
