A disc brake system that is an opposed piston brake system. The disc brake system includes a brake caliper having an inboard side and an outboard side. The inboard side of the brake caliper is configured to support more brake pistons than the outboard side of the brake caliper.

Disc brake system

An assembly that includes a main housing. A motor is supported in a motor housing that is supported in the main housing. The motor has an output shaft and a locking mechanism. The motor is adapted to generate a first rotational direction torque and a second rotational direction torque. The motor is adapted to transfer the first rotational direction torque and the second rotational direction torque to a destination via the output shaft. The locking mechanism is adapted to prevent the output shaft from back driving in the second rotational direction after the first rotational direction torque has been transferred to the destination. The motor housing is adapted to rotate in the main housing to unlock the locking mechanism so that the second rotational direction torque can be transferred to the destination.

Motor assembly

A brake assembly comprising: (a) a caliper including: (i) one or more pistons, (b) one or more rotary to linear actuators that provides an axial force to move the one or more pistons, (c) a motor gear unit in communication with the one or more rotary to linear actuators, the motor gear unit including: (i) a motor, and (ii) a motor brake that prevents movement of the motor gear unit, the pistons, or both when the motor is turned off so that the brake apply is maintained, the motor brake including: (1) a rotor that is in communication with the motor, (2) a contact pad that is movable into contact with the rotor to prevent movement of the rotor and the motor, and (3) an electromagnet that is in communication with the contact pad and creates a brake retract.

Motor with a motor brake

A brake system that includes a brake piston that includes a piston pocket. A nut is located inside the piston pocket. During a brake apply, the brake piston is adapted to move a brake pad against a brake rotor to create a clamping force. During the brake apply, the nut is moved with the brake piston.

Hydraulically-adjustable rotary to linear stage mechanism

A pad clip comprising two or more discrete pieces comprising: one or more clip body sections including a bridge attachment segment located at a bridge end, a spring attachment segment located at a spring end, or both; and one or more bridge sections, one or more retraction springs, or both; wherein the two or more discrete pieces are adapted to be attached together at the bridge attachment segment, spring attachment segment, or both. The teachings also include a method of forming the pad clip, comprising: forming two or more clip body sections, each clip body section including a spring attachment segment; forming one or more retraction springs; attaching the one or more retraction springs to the spring attachment segment of the two or more clip body sections; and installing the pad clip about a support bracket of a brake assembly.

A device comprising a connection plate having a first end and a second end and two or more spring arms connected to and extending from the second end of the connection plate at an angle and having a portion that extends back toward the connection plate, wherein the two or more spring arms, when moved during a brake apply, provide an axial force toward the connection plate. The device may be used within a brake assembly, which further includes a caliper; a support bracket having a leading end and a trailing end, wherein the leading end, the trailing end, or both, have one or more projections; a rotor extending through the support bracket; and two or more brake pads located within the support bracket on opposing sides of the rotor.

A dampening clip comprising: a body portion and a connecting portion extending from the body portion, the connecting portion being configured to connect the dampening clip to an adjacent component, and wherein the dampening clip includes a portion made of a supporting material and a portion made of a dampening material.

A drum-in-hat (DIH) disc brake assembly has a backing plate configured to be supported relative to an axle flange and to support a drum brake shoe assembly of the drum-in-hat parking and emergency brake; a caliper bracket configured to be supported relative to the axle flange and to support a disc brake caliper assembly of the disc service brake; and a parking brake anchor configured to be supported relative to the axle flange. The parking brake anchor includes an anchor body and an abutment. The anchor body has an opening formed therein which is configured to receive a lever arm of a parking and emergency brake actuator which extends through the opening in the anchor body.

Drum-in-hat disc brake assembly

A drum-in-hat (DIH) disc brake assembly has a disc service brake, a DIH parking and emergency brake, and a parking brake anchor. A backing plate, an axle flange, and a caliper bracket each have at least two mounting apertures formed therethrough. The parking brake anchor includes a bracket portion having a pair of studs extending axially outwardly therefrom. The studs are structured and configured to extend through the respective mounting apertures of the backing plate, the axle flange, and the caliper bracket for securing the caliper bracket, parking brake anchor, and the backing plate to the axle flange.

An improved structure for an electric actuator unit for use in a brake assembly. According to an embodiment, a drum brake assembly comprises a mounting flange having an abutment; a backing plate secured to the mounting flange, the backing plate having a pair of brake shoes supported thereon; and an electric actuator unit for actuating the drum brake assembly to selectively move the brake shoes between a braking and a non-braking position, the electric actuator unit including a motor, a gear-set operatively coupled to be driven by the motor, a spindle nut operatively coupled to be rotationally driven by the gear-set, a pull rod operatively coupled to be translatorily driven by the spindle nut, and a brake shoe actuation link assembly operatively coupled to be actuated by the pull rod to thereby move the brake shoes between the braking and non-braking positions, the pull rod being operatively coupled to the brake shoe actuation link assembly by a link, the link having a first end pivotally connected to the pull rod and a second end pivotally connected to a second member of the brake shoe actuation link assembly.

Electric actuator unit for a vehicle brake assembly

This invention relates to an improved park brake cable end assembly for a drum-in-hat disc brake assembly having a disc service brake and a drum-in-hat parking and emergency brake. The drum-in-hat disc brake assembly includes a backing plate adapted to support a drum brake shoe assembly of the drum-in-hat parking and emergency brake; a caliper bracket adapted support a disc brake caliper assembly of the disc service brake; and a drum-in-hat adapter adapted support a disc brake caliper assembly of the disc service brake. According to a feature of the present invention, the drum-in-hat parking and emergency brake includes a park brake cable end assembly including a lever pivotally supported on a link having an end having a configuration which is adapted to accommodate either a parking brake cable having a S-shaped cable end or a clevis shaped cable end.
