A player for a media unit. The player includes a front plate formed of metal and having an opening configured to receive a media unit. The player also includes a cover mounted over the opening and having a slit. The slit is aligned with the opening and configured to allow the media unit to pass through the cover and enter the opening. The cover includes an electrical conductor that contacts the front plate and is in electrostatic communication with the slit. The conductor conducts electrostatic charge from the media unit to the front plate as the media unit passes through the slit. The media unit may be a CD, DVD, memory stick, minidisc or the like.

A method is provided for altering a play list of a Random Access Player without interrupting the generation of output by the Player. The method includes initiating a reproduction mode that activates the Random Access Player, commencing the generating of output by the Random Access Player and receiving play list requests while the Random Access Player is generating the output, and processing the received play list requests while the Random Access Player is generating the output such that the play list is altered without interrupting the generation of output by the player.

A Broadcast receiver system includes a SNAPSHOT feature which searches one or more broadcast bands for currently receivable broadcast signals. Supplemental information accompanying each of the received broadcast signals are processed to determine a program type thereof, e.g. country, jazz, rock, news and the like. Only currently available program types are stored in memory along with all broadcast frequencies corresponding thereto. The receiver system provides means by which a user may select any of the currently available program types, whereupon the user is presented with a number of preset keys automatically programmed with the corresponding number of available broadcast frequencies within the selected program type category. The user may then depress any of the preset keys to tune to a broadcast station broadcasting the selected program type. Alternatively, the user may actuate seek or scan keys to select the broadcast stations within the selected program type.
