Example configurations herein include a media player that initiates playback of content (e.g., play back of a movie in a web browser). Based on input from a respective user, the media player receives selections of playback commands (e.g., play, pause, stop, rewind, fast forward, etc.) applied to the content being played back by the media player. Based on the selections, the media player creates a log report. The log report records the selections of the playback commands applied to the content and indicates, for example, a corresponding time when the playback commands were applied. According to one configuration, the media player initiates distribution of the log report to notify a publisher associated with the content which playback commands were selected during playback of the content on the media player.

Media player feedback

Methods and apparatus provide for a Transformer that detects a selection to playback content and downloads a file in response to detecting the selection to playback content. The file is in a first format and includes a first reference to a location of secondary content that is in a first format that is incompatible with the first format of the file. The Transformer transforms the secondary content to a format compatible with the first format of the file and creates a second reference to the location of the transformed secondary content that is in the format compatible with the first format of the file.

Media orchestration through generic transformations

A media player can comprise a playlist parsing module configured to parse a playlist comprising a plurality of nested elements of a media presentation and select an element of the media presentation for generating output. The playlist can comprise a nested structure of objects representative of the elements of the media presentation, with at least one declared trait applicable to one or more elements. For example, the playlist may specify a composition of a plurality of visual, audio, or other elements for generating output or other behavior in parallel and/or in series over the course of the media presentation. The media player can comprise a playback component configured to utilize at least one selectively-enabled functional component of the media player to generate output based on evaluating the trait(s) exposed by the selected element.

Systems and methods for programmatically interacting with a media player

Systems and methods are provided for providing customized moderation of electronic content published via a media portal. The content management application can access a feed that includes multiple electronic content items. The content management application can determine, based on an approval descriptor associated with the feed, that additional content provided to the feed is provided by a publisher account that must be approved by a moderator account rather than an additional publisher account for which other additional content is automatically approved without requiring moderator approval. The content management application can require approval of the additional content by the moderator account. The moderator account has permission to moderate electronic content provided to the feed based on a moderator descriptor associated with the feed.

Customized moderation of electronic content published via a media portal

A media player can identify one or more elements of a media presentation and select an element of the media presentation for generating output. The elements may be identified in a playlist or elsewhere. For example, the playlist may specify a composition of a plurality of visual, audio, or other elements for generating output or other behavior in parallel and/or in series over the course of the media presentation. The media player can comprise a playback component configured to utilize at least one selectively-enabled functional component of the media player to generate output based on evaluating the trait(s) exposed by the selected element. Traits may be determined based on analyzing media types or other data regarding the elements of the presentation.

Systems and methods for dynamic media players utilizing media traits

A data format provides a mechanism to dynamically change the appearance of an application. During operation, the application obtains streaming feed data for presentation to a user. The feed data may be formatted according to a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) data format. The application detects, within the feed data, branding extensions that identify branding content to be displayed concurrently with channel data and content items when a user selects a channel defined by the feed data. The application detects a user selection of the channel defined by the feed data, and in response, references the branding extensions to obtain and display the branding content within a display region of the application that is separate from the content presentation region of the application for display of content items defined within the feed data.

Application modification based on feed content

Methods and apparatus provide for a region brander configured to uniformly apply branding (i.e graphical modifications) upon both content data and application data to effectuate a seamless branding of an entire region of a graphical user interface (GUI). The region brander defines a hierarchy relationship between content and a branding extension (i.e. embedded modification information) with respect to a region in a Graphical User Interface (GUI). The region brander further defines a master region in the GUI to apply the hierarchy relationship to display the content and the branding extension in the master region. A slave region in the GUI can also be defined to apply the hierarchy relationship in order to: (i) display, in the slave region, the branding extensions related to content selected in the master region, and (ii) display episodic content related to content selected in the master region.

A media player monitors a media feed (e.g., a web feed) for availability of newly published content available over a network. Via the feed, the media player can receive notification that certain retrievable content (e.g., the same content or substantially similar content) is available from multiple different locations over the network. The notification can include multiple pointers for use by the media player to retrieve the content. For example, a first pointer of the multiple pointers can identify a first remote location over the network in which to retrieve the content, a second pointer can identify a second remote location over the network in which to retrieve the content, and so on. The media player can have an associated download manager that selects an appropriate one of the pointers to retrieve the content depending on which of one or more download by applications resides on a computer system.

A method for locating a portion of data is provided. In this method, a request for a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) associated with data is transmitted. The request comprises a labeling tag that is associated with the data. As a result of the request, an URL that comprises an anchor identifier is received and the data located at the URL are retrieved. An anchor within the data is located based on the anchor identifier and a portion of data is located based on the location of the anchor.

Locating a portion of data on a computer network

Downloading resources according to a priority is disclosed. A feed document is retrieved. A feed document represents time-variant chunks of published content. The feed document is parsed to extract one or more references to a downloadable resource. A downloadable resource is a type of content identified by a reference within the feed document. A priority level is assigned to each reference. Priority levels may be assigned in a variety of ways, such as through a size of a resource identified by a reference or a file type of a resource. Priority levels may also be assigned to nestable resources and one or more resources contained therein. Resources for each extracted reference are then downloaded according to the assigned priority levels. A resource for a reference with a higher assigned priority level is downloaded before a resource for a reference with a lower assigned priority level.

Client management of download sequence of orchestrated content

A method, computer system and computer readable medium regarding an extensible master-slave user interface with distinct interaction models is presented. A slave region is displayed in a Graphical User Interface (GUI), the slave region displaying a current state. A master region is displayed in the GUI, the master region displaying a previous state. When a user selects content in the slave region then the master region is removed from the GUI, a new master region is displayed in the GUI, the new master region containing a view of contents of the slave region, the slave region is removed from the GUI and the content selected by the user is displayed in a new slave region in the GUI.

Extensible master-slave user interface with distinct interaction models

Example configurations herein include a media manager associated with a media player that monitors a media feed for available content. Based on monitoring the media feed (e.g., Really Simple Syndication 'RSS' feed), the media manager can receive a pointer to a content playback file. According to one configuration, the content playback file specifies retrievable content (e.g., as specified by pointers therein) and includes instructions indicating how to play back the retrievable content. Upon execution of the content playback file, the media player initiates retrieval of the content as specified by pointers in the content playback file. The media player can initiate playback of the retrieved content in accordance with markup language type playback instructions as specified by the content playback file.
