A filter assembly for removing material entrained in a fluid stream, comprises a housing for a filter element, having a head part and a body part for receiving a filter element, and inlet and outlet ports for the fluid that is to be filtered. The head part and the body part each have engagement formations which enable the head and body parts to be connected to one another and separated by relative rotation about an axis which is coaxial with a head axis and a body axis. Head and body part keying formations can be provided in the form of at least one recess which is provided in a rib on one of the head and body parts, and at least one projection which is provided on the other of the head and body parts. The keying formations require alignment of the head and body axes for initial assembly of the head and body parts when the projection is can be received in the recess in the rib so as to restrict relative rotation of the head and body parts, and so that the head and body parts can then to be moved to an assembly position in which the projection has passed through the rib so that the head and body parts can be rotated relative to each other to allow the engagement formations to become engaged to one another.

Filter assembly

A filter assembly for removing material entrained in a fluid stream includes a housing having a head part and a body part, and inlet and outlet ports for the fluid that is to be filtered, in which at least one of the ports is provided in the head part, the head part having a chamber port fluidly connected to the at least one port in the head part, the head and body parts having first formations which enable them to be connected to one another and separated by relative rotation. The assembly includes a filter element for removing material entrained in the fluid stream that can be received in the body part, the filter element and body part having second formations which restrict relative rotation between them, the filter element having a filter port, in which a fluid tight connection can be provided between the filter port and the chamber port by sliding one of them into the other along a first axis. One of the head part and the filter element provides an inclined surface which is inclined relative to the first axis, and the other provides an ejector part which can act against the said inclined surface so as to push the filter element away from the head part as the head part and the body part are separated by relative rotation, so as to free the filter port from the chamber port.

A separator assembly for removing material that is entrained in a gas stream. The separator assembly comprises a housing having inlet and outlet ports for the gas from which material is to be removed. The inlet and outlet ports are located toward the upper end of the housing. A flow director is positioned so that gas flowing into the housing flows over the flow director so that the incoming gas is made to follow a generally helical path within the housing. The separator assembly also comprises a shield which extends across the housing towards the lower end thereof so as to leave a collection space between it and the lower end in which material that is separated from the gas stream can collect. There is at least one opening in or around the shield through which the material can flow past the shield into the collection space. The face of the shield which is directed towards the upper end of the housing is bowl-shaped.

Separator assembly

A separator assembly for removing material that is entrained in a gas stream. The separator assembly comprises a housing having a head part which provides the upper end of the housing and a body part which provides the lower end of the housing. The separator assembly also comprises a shield which extends across the housing towards the lower end thereof so as to leave a collection space between it and the lower end in which material that is separated from the gas stream can collect. There is at least one opening in or around the shield through which the material can flow past the shield into the collection space. The separator assembly further comprises a liner sleeve which covers at least a part of the inside wall of the body part between the shield and the upper end of the body part.

A coalescing filter element for removing liquid droplets from a gas stream comprises a wall which is made of a coalescing filtration material and which defines a hollow space within it. An end cap at one end of the element has a port in it through which gas is supplied to the hollow space to flow through the wall of the filtration material. The end cap has a peripheral portion which engages the element wall and a tube which extends into the hollow space defined by the element wall, so that the port in the end cap comprises an inner opening defined by the tube and at least one peripheral opening located between the tube and the peripheral portion of the end cap. The tube extends beyond the peripheral opening(s) so as to deliver gas to a region of the element wall which is remote from the end cap.

Coalescing filter element

An assembly for collecting material that is entrained in a gas stream comprises a housing defining a space within it, the housing having inlet and outlet ports for the gas that is to be filtered. The assembly includes a flow conduit which has a first conduit opening for communication with one of the ports and a second conduit opening for communication with the space within the housing. The axis of the first conduit opening and the axis of the second conduit opening are not aligned. The flow conduit contains at least one vane positioned within it so that the flow of gas along the conduit between the first and second conduit openings passes over the vane and is smoothed by it.

Assembly for collecting material entrained in a gas stream

A filter element for removing material that is entrained in a gas stream comprising a wall of a filtration medium which defines a hollow space, for a gas stream to flow from the space through the wall. The filter element includes an end cap having an inlet tube extending into the hollow space for a gas stream to be supplied to the space, the inlet tube having a side wall extending between an upstream open end and a downstream open end. There is at least one opening in its side wall. The inlet tube has an upstream band, a middlestream band and a downstream band, the bands being axially adjacent to one another and non-overlapping. The bands have equal axial lengths of at least 5% of the length of the inlet tube, and are arranged such their planes are perpendicular to the axis of the inlet tube. The proportion of the area of the side wall that is open in the upstream band is smaller than that in the middlestream band, and the proportion of the area of the side wall that is open in the middlestream band is smaller than that in the downstream band.

Filter element

A filter element for removing material that is entrained in a gas stream comprises a wall of a filtration medium which defines a hollow space, for a gas stream to flow from the space through the wall. The filter element includes an end cap having an inlet tube for a gas stream to be supplied to the space. The tube has at least one helically extending rifle formation in its internal wall by which a helical flow is imparted to the gas stream when it leaves the tube.

An assembly for collecting material entrained in a gas stream comprising a housing having a head part and a body part, and inlet and outlet ports. A chamber port is provided in the head part having internal walls defining a primary chamber with a first end communicating with the chamber port and an opening at a second end. The axis of the first and second ends of the primary chamber are non-aligned. A flow conduit device has a first end which can fit into the primary chamber in the housing head part so that it is directed generally towards the chamber port in the housing and a second end which is directed towards the body part of the housing to provide a conduit for gas to flow between the body part of the housing and the outlet port. The flow conduit reduces turbulence in the flow of gas within the chamber.

A hollow filter element for removing material that is entrained in a gas stream. The filter element comprises a wall of a filtration medium which defines a hollow space so that a gas stream can flow from the space through the wall in order to be filtered. The wall comprises a filtration layer, and a drainage layer located outside the filtration layer in which liquid separated from the gas stream can collect. The filter element further comprises first and second end caps at opposite ends of the space, the first end cap including an inlet for a gas stream to be supplied to the space. The drainage layer extends from the wall over at least a part of the external surface of second end cap, over the face thereof which faces away from the first end cap.

This invention relates to a filter assembly for removing material that is entrained in a gas stream. The filter assembly comprises a housing which comprises head and body parts, with an inlet port in the head part for a gas stream to flow into the housing, the head and body parts having formations which enable them to be connected to one another and separated by relative rotation. The filter assembly further comprises a filter element which can be fitted within the housing. The filter element comprises a wall of a filtration medium which defines a hollow space for a gas stream to flow from the space through the wall to be filtered, and an end cap with an inlet which can be sealed to the inlet port in the head part of the housing to provide a flow path for a gas stream to be supplied from the inlet port in the housing to the said space. The filter element fits into the body part of the housing, and the end cap and the body part have interengaging formations in the form of at least one rib and at least one groove, arranged so that the rib can be slid into the groove when the filter element is fitted into the body part, and so that the filter element rotates with the body part relative to the head part.

A filter assembly for removing material that is entrained in a gas stream. The filter assembly comprises a filter element comprising a wall of a filtration medium which defines a hollow space, for a gas stream to flow from the space through the wall to be filtered. The wall includes a filtration layer, and a drainage layer located outside the filtration layer in which liquid separated from the gas stream can collect. The filter element comprises first and second end caps at opposite ends of the wall, the first end cap including an inlet for a gas stream to be supplied to the space within the wall. The filter assembly further comprises a housing in which the filter element can be received when in use. The housing has an inlet port for a gas stream to flow into the housing which communicates with the inlet in the first end cap, and an outlet port through which gas which has passed through the filtration medium can leave the housing. The drainage layer extends over at least a part of the external surface of the second end cap between the second end cap and the housing and the part of the drainage layer between the second end cap and the housing is locally compressed by at least one longitudinally extending fin.

A filter assembly for collecting material that is entrained in a gas stream includes a housing for a filter element. The housing has first and second ends with an inlet and an outlet at the first end for the gas that is to be filtered, and a support surface on its internal wall at a point towards its second end. The assembly includes a tubular filter element arranged within the housing for the gas stream to flow through its wall between the inlet and the outlet. The element is located in the housing by way of a support which extends between the filter element at or towards its end and the support surface on the internal side wall of the housing on which the support rests.

A filter assembly for collecting material that is entrained in a gas stream includes a housing for a tubular filter element. The housing has first and second ends with an inlet and an outlet at the first end for the gas that is to be filtered, and a support surface on its internal wall at a point towards its second end. The assembly includes a tubular filter element arranged within the housing for the gas stream to flow through its wall between the inlet and the outlet. The element is located in the housing by means of a support which extends between the filter element at or towards its end and the support surface on the internal side wall of the housing on which the support rests.
