A tension member for an elevator system includes one or more tension elements extending along a length of the tension member, and one or more a wave guide regions secured to at least one surface of the tension member or integral to the tension member and extending along the length of the tension member. The one or more wave guide regions are configured for transmission of a radio frequency (RF) data signal along the one or more wave guide regions.

A system of a machine includes a network of a plurality of sensing/control/identification devices distributed throughout the machine. Each of the sensing/control/identification devices is associated with at least one sub-system component of the machine and operable to communicate through a plurality of electromagnetic signals. Shielding surrounds at least one of the sensing/control/identification devices to contain the electromagnetic signals proximate to the at least one sub-system component. A waveguide is operable to route a portion of the electromagnetic signals through a waveguide transmitter interface and a waveguide transition interface to the at least one of the sensing/control/identification devices.

A power electronics arrangement may comprise a power supply, a controller configured to receive a power from the power supply and generate an output signal, a waveguide, a receiver, filter, and converter (RFC) configured to receive the output signal via the waveguide, the RFC configured to generate a switching signal from the output signal, and a power switching device (PSD) configured to receive the switching signal from the RFC, wherein the controller transmits the output signal to the RFC through the waveguide via a transponder, the waveguide is coupled between the transponder and the RFC, and the PSD is galvanically isolated from the power supply.

Systems and methods for sending a power signal to a power switching device with galvanic isolation

A system of a machine includes a network of a plurality of sensing/control/identification devices distributed throughout the machine. Each of the sensing/control/identification devices is associated with at least one sub-system component of the machine and operable to communicate through a plurality of electromagnetic signals. Shielding surrounds at least one of the sensing/control/identification devices to contain the electromagnetic signals proximate to the at least one sub-system component. A waveguide is operable to route a portion of the electromagnetic signals through a waveguide transmitter interface, a waveguide medium, and a waveguide transition interface to the at least one of the sensing/control/identification devices. A remote processing unit is operable to communicate with the network of the sensing/control/identification devices through the electromagnetic signals.

A system of a machine is provided. The system having: a network of a plurality of sensing/control/identification devices distributed throughout the machine, at least one of the plurality of sensing/control/identification devices associated with at least one sub-system component of the machine and operable to communicate through a plurality of electromagnetic signals; shielding surrounding at least one of the sensing/control/identification devices to contain the electromagnetic signals proximate to the at least one sub-system component; and a remote processing unit operable to communicate with the network of the sensing/control/identification devices through the electromagnetic signals, wherein the at least one of the plurality of sensing/control/identification devices has internal memory independent of the remote processing unit, the internal memory having historical data corresponding to the least one sub-system component.

Shielded electromagnetic communication with functional components of a machine

Sensing/control/identification devices for machines are provided. The devices include a first stage having a rectification and power conditioning module configured to receive electromagnetic (EM) transmissions via waveguide confinement and convert said EM transmissions to electrical power, a communication interface module configured to receive power from the rectification and conditioning module and at least one of receive or transmit EM transmissions/communications via waveguide confinement, and a control module configured to receive EM transmission data from the communication interface for processing and/or preparing EM communications for transmission. The devices further include a second stage having a tunable control module configured to process and convert instructions or commands from the control module of the first stage into analog or digital signals and generate and transmit an output signal. At least one connection is between the first stage and the second stage to enable communication between the first and second stages.

Multi-stage sensing/control/identification device having protected communication and remote power

A lightweight braided metallic shielding is applied to wiring harnesses to protect against lightning strikes and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The braided shielding has an open braid construction which may be as much as 40% lighter in weight and which provides better electromagnetic shielding than conventional braided shielding. The decrease in weight is achieved by utilizing a braid carrier application angle, as measured from the axis of the wire harness, which is as small as about eighteen degrees, so as to produce a braided shield that has as few as four picks per inch. The ensuing braided shield is very flexible and results in a degree of wire harness coverage which may be as low as about 60%, but which exhibits low electrical resistance which contributes significantly to lightning protection and EMI shielding.
