A copper-doped glass formed by placing a target glass in a container, surrounding the target glass with a powder mixture comprised of SiOpowder and CuS powder, wherein the SiOpowder and the CuS powder are mixed according to the formula (SiO)(CuS), where 0.01&#x3c;x&#x3c;0.1, and heated to a temperature of between 800&#xb0; C. and 1150&#xb0; C. for a duration of between 1 and 10 hours.

Method of manufacture of copper-doped glasses

A method of making a copper-doped glass comprising placing a target glass in a container, placing a target glass in a container, surrounding the target glass with a powder mixture comprised of fused silica (SiO) powder and copper sulfide (CuS) powder, such that both the target glass and the surrounding powder are contained in the container, and heating the container and the target glass and the surrounding powder mixture to a temperature of between 800&#xb0; C. and 1150&#xb0; C.

Neutron detector

An improved thermoluminescence dosimeter (TLD) system, which includes a TLD reader configured to produce data indicative of a radiation exposure, one or more dosimeters comprising a dosimeter substrate coated with a thin layer of a light-absorbing material, a light stimulation source configured to heat the dosimeter using light incident on the dosimeter coating, a light detection system to detect TL emission and an appropriately programmed computer configured to analyze data from the reader and to output data indicative of an extent of radiation exposure.

Laser-heated thermoluminescence dosimeter

An optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimeter system. An OSL reader configured to produce data indicative of a radiation exposure, one or more OSL dosimeters fabricated from a thermoluminescent material, a light stimulation source configured to stimulate the OSL dosimeter to produce luminescence emissions, and a light-detection system that measures the intensity of such luminescence emissions and converts the electrical signal to a binary string that can be processed by an appropriately programmed computer configured to analyze data from the reader and produce data indicative of an extent of radiation exposure. Dose information is obtained without requiring heating of the dosimeter. The dosimeter can be interrogated multiple times with minimal loss of dose information.

Scintillator material

This invention pertains to a holey fiber and to a fabrication method for making the fiber. The holey fiber can transmit light by total internal reflection or by Bragg diffraction, can be single mode or multimode and can have solid core or a hollow core. The holey fiber has outside diameter typically of 20 microns to 5 mm, a hollow core of a diameter typically of 0.2 micron to 150 microns and longitudinal channels therethrough of a diameter typically of 0.1 micron to 150 microns. The channels are disposed in a desired arrangement with center-to-center distance variation of less than about 2% along the length of the fiber and the cross-section thereof is round that varies less than about 2%.

Closed-cell foam silica

A method and an apparatus for dose-guided radiotherapy for a patient (P) having an identified radiotherapy target utilizes a radiation detecting array (R) of radiation-sensitive dosimeters for the real-time remote measurement of radiotherapy at the radiation detecting array (R). The radiation detecting array is positioned within the patient's (P) body along the treatment path before or after the identified radiotherapy target or the device may be positioned beyond the patient (P) to measure transit dose. A radiation source (A) for emitting radiation for radiotherapy along a treatment path through the patient (P) to the identified radiotherapy target is utilized. The method includes generating a predicted dose pattern of radiation at the placed radiation detecting array (R). The predicted dose pattern assumes an on-target radiation source (A) emitting the radiotherapy beam along the treatment path through the patient (P) to the identified radiotherapy target. Gating of the radiation source (A) can occur responsive to the comparing of the predicted dose pattern of radiation to the real-time dose pattern at the radiation detecting array (R). Radiation intensity can vary between low levels to a treatment level responsive to coincidence of the predicted dose pattern of radiation to the real-time dose pattern at the radiation detecting array (R).

Apparatus and process for dose-guided radiotherapy

A method of electroplating a metal into a plurality of channels within an insulating material includes mounting the material to a cathode; placing the cathode into an electroplating solution containing the metal; placing an anode into the electroplating solution; connecting the cathode and the anode to a power supply; controlling operation of the power supply to provide a beginning current density during deposition at the insulating material and initiating electroplating of the metal within the plurality of channels starting at one face of the insulating material; and controlling operation of the power supply to provide a final current density during deposition at the insulating material and ending electroplating of the metal within the plurality of channels at the other face of the insulating material. The final current density is larger than the beginning current density, and the beginning current density is maintained at a level for a sufficient time to substantially prevent bubble formation during the electroplating.
