A method of operating a gas sensor for a gas analyte including a sensing component includes, in a first mode, interrogating the sensor by periodically applying an electrical signal to the sensing component of the sensor, measuring sensor response to the electrical signal which is indicative of a sensitivity of the sensor each time the electrical signal is applied to the sensing component, determining whether one or more thresholds have been exceeded based upon the sensor response determined each time the electrical signal is applied to the sensing component, and entering a second mode, different from the first mode in analysis of the sensor response to the periodically applied electrical signals, if one or more thresholds are exceeded.

Determination of sensor operational status via sensor interrogation

A method of operating a sensor system including at least one sensor for detecting an analyte gas and a control system includes electronically interrogating the sensor to determine the operational status thereof and upon determining that the operational status is non-conforming based upon one or more predetermined thresholds, the control system initiating an automated calibration of the sensor with the analyte gas or a simulant gas.

Sensor interrogation

A system includes a system housing including an inlet, at least one gas sensor responsive to a first analyte gas other than oxygen within the system housing and in fluid connection with the inlet, and a sensor responsive to oxygen within the system housing and in fluid connection with the inlet. The sensor responsive to oxygen is formed to be chemically separate from the at least one gas sensor responsive to the first analyte gas other than oxygen. The sensor responsive to oxygen is responsive to a change in the concentration of oxygen arising from creation of a driving force in the vicinity of the inlet to provide an indication of a state of a transport path between the inlet of the system and the at least one gas sensor responsive to the first analyte gas other than oxygen.

A method of operating a sensor system including at least one sensor to detect a first gas analyte and a control system includes electronically interrogating the sensor to determine the operational status thereof and, based upon the results of the electronic interrogation, the control system initiating an automated maintenance procedure for the sensor.

An electrochemical gas sensor includes a housing comprising a gas inlet, an electrolyte within the housing, a working electrode in ionic contact with the electrolyte, a counter electrode in ionic contact with the electrolyte and a secondary electrode in ionic contact with the electrolyte. Reaction of target gas at the secondary electrode is less than reaction of target gas at the working electrode. Electronic circuitry of the gas sensor is configured to measure an output from the working electrode and an output from the at least one secondary electrode. A correction factor is determined for correcting the output from the working electrode on the basis of the working electrode output and the secondary electrode output during an assessment in which the electrochemical sensor is exposed to the target gas for a determined period of time.

Stabilization of sensor signal in electrochemical gas sensors

An electrochemical gas sensor includes a sensor housing having a plurality of inlet passages, wherein each of the plurality of inlet passages has a cross-sectional area of no greater than 11,309 &#x3bc;m. The electrochemical gas sensor further includes a working electrode within the housing which is responsive to an analyte gas and an electrolyte within the sensor housing in ionic contact with the working electrode.

Sensor with multiple inlets

A method of operating a sensor to detect an analyte in an environment, wherein the sensor includes a working electrode and circuitry in operative connection with the working electrode, includes performing a sensor interrogation cycle including applying electrical energy to the working electrode to generate a non-faradaic current, measuring a response to the generation of the non-faradaic current to determine a state of the sensor, and actively controlling the circuitry to dissipate the non-faradaic current.

Sensor interrogation with fast recovery

A system includes a polymeric housing and a first connector in electrically conductive connection with a first component within the housing. The first connector includes a first extending member formed from a conductive loaded polymeric material. The first extending member is formed such that an interior thereof includes conductive elements within a matrix of the polymeric material so that the interior is electrically conductive and an exterior surface thereof comprises the polymeric material and is less conductive than the conductive interior. The conductive interior of the first extending member is in electrically conductive connection with the first component. The first connector further includes a first extending conductive element in electrical connection with the conductive interior of the first extending member. The first extending conductive element extends from the first extending member to pass through the polymeric housing. A sealing bond is formed between the polymeric material of the first extending member and the polymeric housing.

Sensors and sensor housing systems

An electrochemical gas sensor includes a housing, a first working electrode within the housing and having a first section of gas transfer medium and a first layer of catalyst on the first section of gas transfer medium, and at least a second working electrode within the housing and having a second section of gas transfer medium and a second layer of catalyst on the second section of gas transfer medium. At least one of the first section of gas transfer medium and the second section of gas transfer medium includes at least one area in which the structure thereof has been irreversibly altered to limit diffusion of gas through the at least one of the first section of gas transfer medium or the second section of gas transfer medium toward the other of the at least one of the first section of gas transfer medium and the second section of gas transfer medium.

Electrochemical sensors including electrodes with diffusion barriers

An electrochemical sensor includes a polymeric housing and at least a first electrode within the housing. The first electrode includes an electrochemically active surface. The electrochemical sensor further includes a first connector in electrically conductive connection with the first electrode. The first connector includes a first extending member formed from a conductive loaded polymeric material. The first extending member is formed such that an interior thereof comprises conductive elements within a matrix of the polymeric material so that the interior is electrically conductive and an exterior surface thereof comprises the polymeric material and is less conductive than the conductive interior. The conductive interior of the first extending member is in electrically conductive connection with the first electrode. The first connector further includes a first extending conductive element in electrical connection with the conductive interior. The first extending conductive element extends from the first extending member to pass through the polymeric housing. A sealing bond is formed between the polymeric material of the first extending member and the polymeric housing. The first extending conductive element can, for example, pass through the exterior surface of the first extending member.

A faceplate assembly includes a cover plate having a front wall and a rim surrounding a perimeter of the front wall. The rim has a rim opening therethrough. The front wall has a pair of mounting posts extending therefrom that are configured to be received in keyholes of a phone to support the phone. A subplate configured to be mounted to a wall outlet. The subplate has an end wall and a base with a base opening therethrough and the subplate is configured to hold a modular jack. The cover plate is coupled to the subplate such that the rim and base openings are aligned with one another and are configured to receive a patch cord therethrough.
