Fungicidally active compounds of the formula ##STR1## and stereoisomers thereof, wherein A is the group .dbd.CW-- or a nitrogen atom, B is the group .dbd.CX-- or a nitrogen atom, D is the group .dbd.CY-- or a nitrogen atom, and E is the group .dbd.CZ-- or a nitrogen atom, wherein W, X, Y and Z, which may be the same or different, are, for example, hydrogen, halogen, nitro, nitrile, or other defined groups and wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted aralkyl, cycloalkyl groups, or optionally substituted heteroaromatic, and V is oxygen or sulfur.

These compounds are useful in agriculture, for example, as fungicides or plant growth regulators.

The invention provides fungicidal compositions comprising as an active ingredient a compound having the general formula (I): ##STR1## or a stereoisomer thereof, wherein one of X and Y is hydrogen and the other is ##STR2## where R is H, methyl or ethyl; Z is carbonyl, or a derivative thereof, or is --CR.sup.3 R.sup.4 -- or --CR.sup.3 OR.sup.4 in which R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are hydrogen or alkyl groups; R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, which may be the same or different, are alkyl groups containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 together with the adjacent nitrogen atom constitute an optionally substituted heterocyclic ring; and n is 0 or 1.

Method of combating fungi

This invention provides fungicidal compositions comprising as an active ingredient a compound having the general formula (I): ##STR1## or a stereoisomer thereof, wherein one of X and Y represents hydrogen and the other represents the group ##STR2## in which R is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; Z represents hydrogen or an alkyl group containing from one to four carbon atoms; R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, which may be the same or different, represent hydrogen or an alkyl group containing one to four carbon atoms, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 together with the adjacent nitrogen atom represent an optionally-substituted heterocyclic ring; and n is 0 or 1.

Fungicidal compositions containing piperidine compounds

A method and composition are provided for combating fungus of plants wherein there is applied to the fungus a biologically-active pyrimidine derivative having the formula: ##STR1## or salt thereof, wherein X is an atom of oxygen or sulphur; R.sub.1 is hydrogen; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl containing not more than 6 carbon atoms; phenyl or halo- or alkyl-substituted phenyl, cyclohexyl or acetyl; R.sub.4 is alkyl containing not more than 6 carbon atoms or a phenyl radical; R.sub.5 is hydrogen, or alkyl or alkenyl containing not more than 6 carbon atoms; R.sub.6 is alkyl containing not more than 6 carbon atoms or phenyl.

Fungicidal pyrimidine derivatives

Pyrimidine derivatives are provided wherein the 6-position carries the group OSO.sub.2 NR.sup.5 R.sup.6 and the 2-position carries the group NR.sup.1 R.sup.2. R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are preferably hydrogen or lower alkyl but both are not hydrogen and R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are preferably lower alkyl, although these groups may form a cyclic ring. The 3-position and 4-position are preferably substituted with lower alkyl, although lower alkynyl or alkenyl may be used. The derivatives are compounded into compositions for combatting fungal pests.

Pyrimidine sulfamate fungicides

Fungicidal pyrimidine derivatives and the use thereof in combatting plant diseases. Representative derivatives are 2-dimethylamino-4-methyl-5-n-pentyl-6-hydroxypyrimidine and 2-dimethylamino-4-methyl-5-n-propyl-6-hydroxypyrimidine.
