According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a wind turbine blade having a split blade configuration, comprising a first blade module defining an aerofoil profile and a second blade module defining an aerofoil profile; a damping module intermediate the first blade module and the second blade module; wherein the damping module comprises a first blade interface for joining to the first blade module and a second blade interface for joining to the second blade module. The damping module comprises a vibration damping unit. Beneficially, the invention provides a useful way in which to integrate motion damping functionality into a modular wind turbine blade.

A method of retrofitting a wind turbine () having a wind turbine tower () and a first energy generating unit () includes rotating at least a portion of the wind turbine tower (). The wind turbine tower () is secured to a foundation () and has a first position on the foundation (). The method includes rotating at least a portion of the wind turbine tower () from the first position to a second position. In the second position, the portion experiences less stress when the wind turbine () is operated in the same prevailing wind. The wind turbine tower () may have at least two sections () and wherein rotating includes rotating one section relative to another section. One section may be secured to a foundation (). In that case, rotating may or may not include rotating the section secured to the foundation (). Rotating the tower may occur after the first energy generating unit () is removed from the tower and may include rotating the wind turbine tower by an angle from 90°±15° relative to the first position.

Method of retrofitting a wind turbine

A wind turbine comprising one or more wind turbine blades arranged to perform pivot movements between a minimum pivot angle and a maximum pivot angle, each wind turbine blade extending between an outer tip and an inner tip, wherein each wind turbine blade has an outer portion extending between the hinge and the outer tip and having a first length, and inner portion extending between the hinge and the inner tip and having a second length, wherein a coning angle of the blade carrying structure is larger than zero and/or a tilt angle of the rotor axis is larger than zero, and wherein a horizontal distance from the tower at a vertical position defined by a position of the hinge at tower passage to a point of connection between the blade carrying structure and the hub is equal to or less than the second length.

A method and a device for dampening movement in a multiple rotor (MR) wind turbine located at sea and comprising a tower () extending in an upwards direction, a load carrying structure () forming a first section () and a second section (), the first and second sections extending in different directions away from the tower (). To provide efficient dampening of the movement, the method comprises tethering a first body () to the first section (), the first body being at least partly submerged into the sea.

A multirotor wind turbine () comprising a vertical tower and at least two energy generating units (), a load carrying structure () extending transverse to the vertical direction and carrying the at least two energy generating units (); and at least one escape route extending between a start and an exit. To provide a safe escape route, the load carrying structure forms at least a first section of the escape route from the start to an intermediate location, and the wind turbine comprises an escape opening in the nacelle, the escape opening leading from an interior space of a nacelle of the energy generating unit to a passage structure and the passage structure extending from the escape opening to the start of the escape route.

Multirotor wind turbine

Methods and systems [are disclosed] for controlling wind turbines having a tower, a nacelle, and a rotor with a blade and hub. The wind turbine may further include a yaw drive system for rotating the nacelle relative to the tower about a substantially vertical axis, and/or a pitch drive system for rotating the blade of the rotor around a longitudinal axis of the blade. During high wind speeds when the wind turbine may be in a stand-still and non-power-producing situation, the yaw drive system may continuously or periodically rotate the nacelle to vary a direction of the rotor with respect to the wind. Further, the pitch drive system may continuously or periodically rotate the blade to vary a direction of the blade with respect to the wind. In this manner, the wind turbine may be safely controlled during high winds.
