A surgical instrument including a reusable and sterilizable hub assembly and a releasably connectable disposable blade assembly allows multiple reuse of the hub assembly in conjunction with single use disposable blade assemblies.

Reusable blade hub assembly

Embodiments of the invention include drive units and other effective types of movement inducing devices that include load sensing mechanisms capable of giving feedback to a user when a force is being applied to the devices during use. The applied force for which monitoring is provided may be one or more of a lateral force transverse to a longitudinal rotating axis of a surgical blade, burr, or other mechanism, a force applied along the longitudinal rotating axis, and other forces.

Load sensing resection device

Featured is a closed loop surgical system including one or more control units that are configured to form a fluid control subsystem for fluid control and a device control subsystem for controlling a surgical device. The two control subsystems in combination provide an automatic self-managed closed loop system for the control of fluid into and out of the surgical site by means of intelligent communication and for maintaining a preselected pressure desired by the surgeon. In particular embodiments, this is accomplished by utilizing empirically correlated motor speed and load measurements, based on supplied current, from the surgical resection device when using its specific resection capability. For example, automatically adjusting fluid flow responsive to changes in loading of a surgical device or automatically sensing a load change for the surgical device during a surgical procedure and automatically changing (increasing or decreasing) fluid flow responsive to the load change.

Closed loop surgical system

A medical device that includes an outer tube assembly that includes a straight outer tube, an inner tube assembly that includes a straight inner tube disposed within the outer tube, and at least one interference member on the outer tube assembly and at least one interference member on the inner tube assembly. The inner tube and the outer tube are configured to rotate relative to each other to resect tissue at a distal end of the inner and outer tubes. The interference members are configured to prevent a force exerted along a longitudinal axis of the inner tube from separating the inner and outer tubes without rendering the medical device unusable.

Medical device

The present disclosure relates to resection devices and methods. The resection device includes an outer tubular member; and an inner tubular member disposed within the outer tubular member, the inner tubular member including a burr having a body with flutes extending along a length of the body, the flutes including parabolic wave patterns located along surface edges of the flutes. In an embodiment, the parabolic wave patterns extend along entire lengths of the flutes. Other resection devices and methods are also disclosed.

Arthroscopic resection methods

A surgical drive apparatus includes a rotating shaft of a sectioning device and a drive unit having a motor disposed in a motor chamber, in which the motor rotationally couples to the rotating shaft as the rotating shaft extends through an end of the motor chamber. A suction chamber is defined by an interior of a cap, in which the end of the motor chamber is receptive to the cap for sealing engagement with the drive unit, and a rotary tool such as the sectioning device extends through the cap for rotational movement relative to the cap while maintaining fluid communication with the suction chamber. For evacuation of surgical material, an outflow tube is in fluid communication with the suction chamber for providing a fluid path to the suctioning device via the suction chamber. The drive protrudes from the motor chamber which is sealed to allow cleaning and sterilization.

Surgical drive apparatus

A fluid flow device includes a housing configured to releasably mate with a surgical control unit for controlling fluid flow during a surgical procedure. First and second ports measure fluid pressure within a fluid path provided within the housing. The fluid flow device includes a restrictor for restricting fluid flow at a restriction location along the fluid path. The first port is located upstream of the restriction location and the second port is located downstream of the restriction location. A fluid pump is provided within the housing.

Surgical fluid management

The present disclosure relates to a cartridge assembly. The cartridge assembly includes an inflow cartridge and an outflow cartridge removably coupled to the inflow cartridge. An outflow cartridge and a surgical fluid management system are also disclosed.

Cartridge assembly

A surgical instrument includes a hub, a rotating member, an impeller, and an impeller enclosure. The hub has a proximal portion and a distal portion and defines a lumen therebetween. The distal portion of the hub includes a sleeve portion configured to rotatably support the rotating member. The rotating member extends through the hub and has a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end of the rotating member is configured to couple to an external driving mechanism. The impeller is coupled to the distal end of the rotating member and is configured to accelerate fluid flowing into or out of the lumen. The impeller enclosure is coupled to the distal portion of the hub and defines an impeller volume around the impeller. One or more openings are defined around the sleeve portion of the hub such that the lumen is in fluid communication with the impeller volume.

Medical pump

An inner assembly for a modular surgical drive hub includes a drive adapter, an inner blade adapter, and a compression member, the inner blade adapter mounted within the drive adapter and biased in a distal direction by the compression member, the drive adapter and the inner blade adapter including a key-way and a key for transmitting rotational force from the drive adapter to the inner blade adapter; wherein the inner assembly is configured to be inserted into and retained within the modular surgical drive hub. A modular surgical drive hub and a surgical instrument are described.
