The present disclosure provides a method, apparatus, and system for increasing data rates and improving robustness in a wireless communication system. The method comprises identifying a set of guard tones for wireless Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signals, encoding data for OFDM transmission, identifying a preferred puncture pattern to puncture the encoded data, puncturing the encoded data with the preferred puncture pattern, and transmitting the punctured encoded data, wherein a portion of the punctured encoded data is transmitted on a portion of the set of guard tones.

Method, apparatus and system for using guard tones in OFDM systems for increasing data rates and improving robustness

A system, method and computer-readable medium for encoding and decoding digital information over a channel is provided. Type Mapping is employed and is based on the partitioning of vectors over an alphabet into 'types' and using enumeration for the encoding and decoding process. Type mapping allows for signal alphabets of arbitrary size and date rate flexible coding. Tradeoffs between optimal rate versus Signal to Noise Ratio are provided and works as a compliment to the Forward Error Control that may be employed in communications products.

A method for precise transmit power adjustment in a wide personal area network (WPAN) is provided that includes coarse adjusting a power level of the radio signal by adjusting a gain setting of an amplifier that is used to power the radio signal, and fine adjusting the power level of the radio signal by adjusting a voltage level of an information signal that is provided to the amplifier so that the power level of the radio signal approaches a maximum allowable power level.

Method and system for precise transmit power adjustment in wireless communication systems

A method, system, and computer-readable medium for detecting an interferer in a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes receiving a signal having P tones, each of the P tones being associated with a frequency, determining a first signal quality of each of the P tones, determining a second signal quality of each of the P tones, and detecting the interferer that occupies the same frequency as one of the P tones based on the respective first signal quality and the respective second signal quality. The first signal quality and second signal quality behave differently when the interferer is present. The detecting the interferer includes determining a discrepancy in the behavior of the first signal quality and the second signal quality.

Detection of interferers using divergence of signal quality estimates

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for correcting direct current (DC) offsets in radio output signals. The invention comprises a radio processor and a baseband processor. During a calibration routine, the baseband processor measures DC offset produced by the radio processor, generates a corresponding DC offset correction value, and writes the correction value to a discrete memory in the radio processor via a serial processor interface. During a subsequent normal receive operation, the radio processor reads the DC offset correction value from memory and feeds it into a into a digital to analog converter to produce an analog signal that in turn is fed into a radio receive path to nullify undesired DC offset.

A system for detection and avoidance of victim services in ultra-wideband (UWB) systems is provided. A detect and avoid module may calculate power averages of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing tones. The power of tones may be measured and compared with power averages of corresponding tones. If a measured tone power exceeds an average power of a corresponding tone by a dynamic threshold, the tone may be identified as associated with an interferer. The threshold may be inversely related to the gain level of an automatic gain control module. The UWB subsystem may be configured with known bands of victim services of other radio frequency systems, and a tone identified as associated with an interferer that is within a known victim service band may be identified as a victim service. The UWB subsystem may attenuate or otherwise suppress transmission within the victim service band to avoid interfering with the victim service.
